If you ever get down to this part of the South Island of New Zealand, say you were driving from Dunedin south to Invercargill and Bluff, or to further afield Te Anau and Queenstown, consider a detour along the coastal road through the Catlins. It's a scenic wonderland off the usual highway and the Lost Gypsy is an unmissable highlight. It's very interactive fun, makes you smile each time you crank a handle on his outrageously delightful inventions.

We visited back in 2007 while backpacking around NZ. It's one of those places that should be long gone, but is still here. Definitely worth a visit and supporting them by buying something. We still have our 'southern gurgles' on show and everyone has talked about it in our New Year party.

Sometimes you just need the memories and years on we've still got ours. Give it a go, it's genuinely cool.

If you're ever travelling in the beautiful Catlins please allow yourself sometime to visit this quite unique place. As soon as i walked into the bus i found myself transported back to the wide eyed days of my childhood, everywhere i looked i could see items that would bring lovely memories flooding back to me and putting a big smile upon my face. There's also so many wonderful items that have been made in the workshop on the bus so there's always a button to push, a switch to flick, a lever to pull or a handle to turn and just watch for the results! Also i reckon it's well worth paying a few dollars to go into the garden behind the bus because some of the creations in there will have you laughing and looking in amazement at the same time.

Worth looking in the bus (free), we didn't pay to look around outside. Didn't buy anything because it was all rather expensive.
