Norman Hardie wines put PEC on the wine map. His wines have gone on to the big leagues and that is great and some people stop in because of that. I love to stop in to see what the latest releases are and every now and then, fall on something that is outside of the usual range of wines in PEC. Norman Hardie has a great pinot noir and chardonnay. They are great and because they are so well liked, they are pricey. But the unusual stuff always surprises. We tried their first release of Melon de Bourgogne when the winery was brand new (the sign wasn't event up) and it is that wine that got us hooked. Their recent release - Calcaire - is another interesting creation worth enjoying. Given its status, it is worth stopping in.

I was very excited to visit this winery as we had heard that they had great wine and really focused on using grapes from Prince Edward County, which lots of other wineries don't. We had decided before we arrived that this would be the one winery where we would buy a couple bottles of wine and take a tour.
When we arrived at the winery we immeditely went upstairs to the tasting room. There were two other couples at the tasting bar and two employees behind the bar. The one "checked me out" by looking me up and down, I smiled at him, as did my husband (despite this employee's brashness). The employee didn't smile back or even say hello to us, he just turned away from us. We wandered around looking at some wine and then eventually stood at the bar with the menu in hand waiting to be asked to sample. Neither employee acknowledged us for a good 5 minutes. We eventually left, empty handed and without even having sampled the wine. Very disappointing. We went to Rosehall down the road and were given much better service.

We really enjoyed the wine here and the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The grounds are spectacular. We will be coming back for some brick oven baked pizza.

This truly is the best experience the County has to offer. Pizzas cooked in front of you using local ingredients, accompanied by wine made steps away, in the company of a magnanimous host and all enjoyed in the sun on the patio. I don't know why you'd have lunch anywhere else!

While visiting Prince Edward County wineries, we
Timed it to arrive at Norman Hardie Winery at lunch time to take advantage of their delicious pizzas cooked in their own wood fired pizza over; should have realized that others would want to do this as well. It was very busy, and tables out on the pizza patio with shade umbrellas were at a premium. The staff were great however, and when we took a very hot sunny table, our server manhandled a large wooden tub and large umbrella over to our table. The pizza was excellent and we tried four different ones. Service was a bit slow, but it was very busy.

The staff upstairs at the tasting bar were knowledgable and helpful.
