“Ghosts and Gobblin Get Away”
Reviewed December 12, 2012

My wife and I spent our 7th wedding anniversary at "The Notchland Inn" during the week end of October 25th thru the 28th. This happened to be when the Inn was doing their "Ghost's and Gobblin" themed event. What a blast, we got to let our hair down and wear costumes, travel around the local area, visit other inns and bakeries that were participating in the event, sample a lot of yummy treats, and meet great people !! The night time ghost reading at the grave site and the ghost walk in the woods to the falls was fun, every one had a blast! The Inn its self is just wonderfull, and the cottage "The Willard" was breathtaking. We especially enjoyed the fact that we could travel and stay at the inn with our two small pups(Kokoa and Farley) whom enjoyed meeting the Inn's two big dogs (Crawford and Felonie). The dinners and breakfasts were truly enjoyable, great food and service.

The Notchland Inn is a destination in itself. Relax by the fire, read the paper, enjoy dinner without having to schlep to a different location and stand in line. The rooms are spacious and very nicely decorated. Large windows give a view to the mountains around the inn. The dining room has a view of a small pond with lots of bird feeders and plenty of activity between the birds and squirrels. They serve a pris fixe dinner in the evening with delicious food. I had an excellent cream of mushroom soup, a crab cake which was deliciously flavored, salmon cooked perfectly and a wonderful blueberry crisp. They have a rule that you can have seconds on dessert until they run out. I wish I could have tasted the chocolate cake, but I was too full. N. Conway is a quick 22 mile ride down the road and all the mountain sights are relatively close. The site is very quiet and peaceful. They do have wifi now, but the mountains block cell phone signals, which to me is a big plus. There are lots of hiking trails nearby. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

Don't want to go into detail, but I was disappointed; the many reviews here are a mystery to me. I think Crawford Notch is beautiful, but Hart's Location does not compare in beauty to a little north of here in New Hampshire.

My wife and I took a couple of days to visit the White Moutain area in NH and we stayed at the Notchland Inn which turned out to be a great find. The owners Ed and Les along with their Bernese Mountain dogs Crawford and Felonie are very friendly and very helpful. Ed took some time with us a breakfast (the food was ample and excellent) to answer questions that we had about the hiking trails in the area. Ed first asked about our hiking abilities and then proceded to show us on a map what trails he thought would be best for us. We choose the Black Cap trail, Arethusa Falls trail, Mount Willard trail, and Diana's Baths trail all of which turned out to be well worth it. We had dinner at the Inn on our first night and it was over the top which we both gave it a five star rating. The food was well prepared and very tasty. The service was right on and we would recommend that you make reservations if you want to have dinner there. Our spacious, clean, and comfortable room (Bear) was on the second floor at the corner of the house which had a king bed, fireplace, couch, and a shower stall bathroom. No cell phone reception and TV's are at the Inn which makes it very peaceful. We now understand why this Inn gets rave reviews and is listed as one of the top rated Inn's in New England.

Notchland inn is definantely not for everyone. The Inn is very old which for us is very charming. The bathroom however could use some upgrading but with keeping in mind the historical authenticity. It seemed to be a bit overpriced considering everything. The breakfast was very nice but the decor seemed to be too modern to match the rest of the house. We did not feel like we should have had to retrieve our own firewood daily.

Room Tip: Be aware that this Inn is far from town. There is no cell phone coverage and no TV. We love dogs b...

Notchland is located just south of Crawford Notch in the scenic White Mountains of NH. We've stayed at here many times in Spring and Winter and have also visited in Fall and Summer (the gardens are beautiful). It truly is a great place no matter when you visit and if it's relaxation you seek, GO FOR A STAY. There are no phones in the rooms nor are there any TV's anywhere on the premises, ah, peace and quiet. There was wireless internet available if one felt the need to check the sports scores. And best of all there is no cell reception because of the Inn’s location, but if necessary you can go down the road less than a mile and get all you want, though I always saw that as a perk. There are AM/FM/CD radios in the rooms and the Inn has a large selection of CD's to enjoy. Every room has a real wood burning fireplace and there are also fireplaces in the common area and dining room which makes it VERY romantic in the colder months. There is also air conditioning in every room for the warmer months. Every room has its own private shower or bath and several have Jacuzzis. A wonderful breakfast (included in the price) served daily and you can choose as much or as little as you want from their extensive menu. The innkeepers and staff are very knowledgeable about the local area and attractions and are always willing and able to assist you in your plans. It is minutes from several major ski areas (downhill and X-country and snowshoeing) and hiking trails are located both on and off the property.
A five course prix-fixe dinner is served is served Wednesday thru Sunday evenings at 7 PM in the dining room. You can eat at a table by yourself or join other friends you may meet at the Inn. The food is excellent and the wine list, while small, is very good and reasonable. Overall dinner is both a good value and another peaceful and romantic opportunity.
We first saw this Inn Witten up in Yankee magazine and we've been coming here for 12 years now. We also stayed here in May of this year and are looking forward to two nights in December (we hear they really decorate the place for the holidays) and also our longer stay in January of 2013. If it's relaxation you seek, this is the place.

Room Tip: There are only good rooms here, some bigger, some suites, some with a patio. We have friends who hav...

Heart's Location: how cool is that for the name of a nice romantic bed & breakfast? My wife and I did a three day get-away to Notchland, on the advice of a friend who has been a few times. We really needed it, and the absence of cell phone service at the Inn was just what the doctor ordered.

Crawford Notch may be in the middle of nowhere, but it is worth every travel minute and remarkably easy to find. My advice to the reviewers who got lost is to ditch the gps units and rely on old school navigation!

We were travelling with our pooch, Pilot the miniature black poodle, so were in the Willard cottage. Apparently Crawford and Fellonie are a bit possessive about "their" inn... On arrival we got a nice warm welcome, a low key tour of the place and we made our dinner selections. Our cottage had a nice balcony and we had brought some bread, cheese, paté and wine, so had lunch alfresco on our deck in the hot August sun.

Dinner was a nice, relaxed affair in the inn. The food is what I would call semi-gourmet: a nice five course meal which was excellent (taste and value) but not really gourmet, at least by Montreal standards. The wine selection is perfect and compared to big city prices, cheap! All in all, great value for money and nice after a full day hiking the White Mountains.

The included breakfast was superb. Eggs pretty much any style, except for benedict (what's up with that?) and blueberry pancakes to die for! And what fun eating while observing the squadrons of hummingbirds at the window feeders!

Every evening we made a nice fire in our cottage (all the rooms have a great wood burning fireplace and what seems to be an endless supply of excellent firewood). The room was well equiped, cozy, had a microwave and a fridge, plus a nice whirlpool tub. Heaven.

We did three fantastic day hikes: Mark was an excellent source of advice on where to go: especially useful to be told to go up Frankenstein Cliffs and down the Arethusa Falls side: doing it the other way around would have definitely been less fun with the dog!

We ate out two nights. The first was at the White Mountain Cider Company and the second, the Margarita Grill. Both were excellent and a lively change from the more quiet Notchland.

To the Quebecers travelling to the Notchland: don't forget to stock up on booze in Bartlett: the cheap prices will bring tears of joy to your eyes! We drank Veuve Clicot champagne every day, at half the price of the same bottle in Montreal!

We will definitely be back, and mix up eating at the Inn and at some of the local restaurants. Honestly, I can't think of a single negative about the place. The room even had window shades ;-)

Room Tip: We might choose the Willard cottage even if we did not bring a dog: it is new, spacious, has a nice...
