“A Four Season Romantic Getaway”
Reviewed September 27, 2012

Notchland is located just south of Crawford Notch in the scenic White Mountains of NH. We've stayed at here many times in Spring and Winter and have also visited in Fall and Summer (the gardens are beautiful). It truly is a great place no matter when you visit and if it's relaxation you seek, GO FOR A STAY. There are no phones in the rooms nor are there any TV's anywhere on the premises, ah, peace and quiet. There was wireless internet available if one felt the need to check the sports scores. And best of all there is no cell reception because of the Inn’s location, but if necessary you can go down the road less than a mile and get all you want, though I always saw that as a perk. There are AM/FM/CD radios in the rooms and the Inn has a large selection of CD's to enjoy. Every room has a real wood burning fireplace and there are also fireplaces in the common area and dining room which makes it VERY romantic in the colder months. There is also air conditioning in every room for the warmer months. Every room has its own private shower or bath and several have Jacuzzis. A wonderful breakfast (included in the price) served daily and you can choose as much or as little as you want from their extensive menu. The innkeepers and staff are very knowledgeable about the local area and attractions and are always willing and able to assist you in your plans. It is minutes from several major ski areas (downhill and X-country and snowshoeing) and hiking trails are located both on and off the property.
A five course prix-fixe dinner is served is served Wednesday thru Sunday evenings at 7 PM in the dining room. You can eat at a table by yourself or join other friends you may meet at the Inn. The food is excellent and the wine list, while small, is very good and reasonable. Overall dinner is both a good value and another peaceful and romantic opportunity.
We first saw this Inn Witten up in Yankee magazine and we've been coming here for 12 years now. We also stayed here in May of this year and are looking forward to two nights in December (we hear they really decorate the place for the holidays) and also our longer stay in January of 2013. If it's relaxation you seek, this is the place.

Room Tip: There are only good rooms here, some bigger, some suites, some with a patio. We have friends who hav...

Heart's Location: how cool is that for the name of a nice romantic bed & breakfast? My wife and I did a three day get-away to Notchland, on the advice of a friend who has been a few times. We really needed it, and the absence of cell phone service at the Inn was just what the doctor ordered.

Crawford Notch may be in the middle of nowhere, but it is worth every travel minute and remarkably easy to find. My advice to the reviewers who got lost is to ditch the gps units and rely on old school navigation!

We were travelling with our pooch, Pilot the miniature black poodle, so were in the Willard cottage. Apparently Crawford and Fellonie are a bit possessive about "their" inn... On arrival we got a nice warm welcome, a low key tour of the place and we made our dinner selections. Our cottage had a nice balcony and we had brought some bread, cheese, paté and wine, so had lunch alfresco on our deck in the hot August sun.

Dinner was a nice, relaxed affair in the inn. The food is what I would call semi-gourmet: a nice five course meal which was excellent (taste and value) but not really gourmet, at least by Montreal standards. The wine selection is perfect and compared to big city prices, cheap! All in all, great value for money and nice after a full day hiking the White Mountains.

The included breakfast was superb. Eggs pretty much any style, except for benedict (what's up with that?) and blueberry pancakes to die for! And what fun eating while observing the squadrons of hummingbirds at the window feeders!

Every evening we made a nice fire in our cottage (all the rooms have a great wood burning fireplace and what seems to be an endless supply of excellent firewood). The room was well equiped, cozy, had a microwave and a fridge, plus a nice whirlpool tub. Heaven.

We did three fantastic day hikes: Mark was an excellent source of advice on where to go: especially useful to be told to go up Frankenstein Cliffs and down the Arethusa Falls side: doing it the other way around would have definitely been less fun with the dog!

We ate out two nights. The first was at the White Mountain Cider Company and the second, the Margarita Grill. Both were excellent and a lively change from the more quiet Notchland.

To the Quebecers travelling to the Notchland: don't forget to stock up on booze in Bartlett: the cheap prices will bring tears of joy to your eyes! We drank Veuve Clicot champagne every day, at half the price of the same bottle in Montreal!

We will definitely be back, and mix up eating at the Inn and at some of the local restaurants. Honestly, I can't think of a single negative about the place. The room even had window shades ;-)

Room Tip: We might choose the Willard cottage even if we did not bring a dog: it is new, spacious, has a nice...

First, I need to say that I wish Tripadvisor let me give fractions of stars, because I would have rated this 4.5 or 4.75. The Inn is perched on a hill just off of Rte 302 with views of the mountains all around. It's a solid granite building, built in the 1800s, with a rich history. Our room was on the second floor, overlooking the road -- we weren't bothered by any road noise, but it is the off-season so traffic was very light. The house is perfectly appointed; the innkeepers seem to have thought of everything. The bed was comfortable and provided a great night's sleep. Breakfast was awesome -- whoever was making it is a great cook and you have made-to-order options ranging from eggs to oatmeal to pancakes. The in-room guide provided a wealth of ideas for things to do, including fantastic hikes at all ability levels, restaurants, sightseeing, and tours. We managed to spend a little bit of time in the downstairs living room (working on the world's most frustrating puzzle!) and on the grounds, where you can find a small cemetery and a number of hikes. We took some time to enjoy a glass of wine while the sun set, whiling away the hour on the front lawn. Dinner was a great treat and very intimate -- highly recommended. I took away the half-star just because of the bathroom -- while everything else in the house was clearly thoughtfully appointed, the bathroom desperately needed some TLC. It wasn't dirty but it was tired and needed a fresh shower curtain, a new shower head, and some updated tile grout. All that said, we can't wait to return for another restful, relaxing, restorative weekend.

This bed and breakfast is surrounded by mountains and does not get cell phone service or TV but is one of the most restful places we have stayed at. The 5 course dinner on Sunday night was wonderful as were the breakfasts. The Innkeepers treated us wonderfully and the weather cooperated. North Conway was a 1/2 hour drive away if you like shopping or a change of pace for supper. A warning to those with allergies : they have two beautiful napal mountain dogs who are great with guests. We took a room with shower only, but if we did it again, the rooms with bath and shower seem nicer even though this was at one time a wealthy persons summer home.

My husband is from New England and had a cottage in New Hampshire when he was growing up. We live in Indiana now and make a trip to New Hampshire each year. We have stayed in many B&Bs and finally settled on one that we have returned to for many years. The Notchland Inn in Hart's Location is perfect for a "get away from it all "stay. It's located in Crawford Notch and is convienent to many and varied hiking trails. They provide a delicious made to order breakfast and an optional 5 course dinner. Mark is more than ready to provide help with hikes and things to do in the area at breakfast. Each room has a wood burning fireplace and some have soaking or whirlpool tubs. All in all a great place in the great outdoors.

Room Tip: Book a room with a balcony

Mark and Les were great. Mark was very knowledgable of the surrounding area. He was extremely helpful. Great guy. Dogs were awesome. Food was good. The only real downer was the windows. There were no shades. There was no way to effectively block the light in our room. We only had paper thin curtains. We woke up with the sun, and sometimes, thats not what I want to do on vacation, especially when I'm paying over $250 a night. Fix this, and I'd give it 5. But sleep is a pretty big deal on vacation, especially at a B&B.

We purchased a deal for a 2 for 1 stay. Having passed it many times we finally got a chance to stay. The Inn is very historic and maintains a lot of the old charm. The room was very clean and well maintained. Bed was comfortable nice and bathroom clean. The place was very personal. The hosts and all the staff were awesome, including the two dogs who make sure everyone is greeted in the morning. we did not have dinner here, but the breakfast was the best I have found anywhere. We loved staying here and cannot wait to come back. thank you very much.
