“Excellent Tuscan Fare by Great Owner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2012

At here recently and owner could not have been mor accommodating. Added touches you will not get at most other restaurants in the area (aperitifs, digestifs, and extra courses). No menu per say but definitely enough choice to please anyone's palate. Definitely worth driving a bit out of your way as the ambiance and food was fantastic.

“Excellent food and ambiance - only surpassed by the service!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2012

We were fortunate enough to dine at this charming upstairs restaurant during our recent stay in nearby Trequanda in August 2012. The quaint and intimate setting of the restaurant is on the second floor atop a bar that blends in naturally with the landscape of the quiet and quaint streets in the village of Montisi. There is no menu, but instead the owner personally explains the various options and then designs plates and combinations based on the guests' personal interests and/or dietary restrictions. The owner takes great pride not only in the satisfaction of the customer but the presentation and taste of each plate he brings to the table. It is very obvious that he has a true passion, not only for cooking, but serving and taking care of others. His humble and friendly attitude eliminates all the stress of ordering food - especially for those who may be new to the Italian language - and makes for very pleasant conversation. While the restaurant is somewhat small in physical space and only consists of several tables over two rooms it still has a private feel for the dining experience yet with a elegant and more modern undertone. Great for all types of visitors to couples or large families. Could not have asked for a better dining experience both in quality and overall ambiance and truly represents the heart of Tuscany - in food and family!

“Excellent food - charming owner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2012

This is a new place that opened in Montisi earlier this year above the existing bar and we understand that it has been a lifelong ambition of the owner to have a proper restaurant. We had two meals here while staying nearby in May/June 2012. Both meals and the service were excellent. There is no printed menu and the owner passionately explained the evening's choices with his limited but adequate English. On the first night a few locals were helping with the translations and on the second night he asked us to be quiet, then made the snorting sound of a pig to describe the dish. In the end, I opted for the tripe and got an enthusiastic handshake to congratulate me for my great choice. We even got a complimentary Irish Coffee when he learned we were from Ireland!
Overall, we can wholeheartedly recommend Il Barrino - l'Ombelico del Mondo.
