A celebration of 55 years of marriage for our parents. We could not have wished for a better way to celebrate their Emerald wedding anniversary. We had booked for Afternoon Tea at Gravetye. Having not been before we did not know what to expect, we were not disappointed! The service was exceptional, the tea was delightful, we were sat outside in the garden for our tea and as a group of eight (ages ranging from 7 to 79) we were all taken with the beauty of the gardens and the wonderful staff. An anniversary our parents will remember fondly.

I am so pleased you chose Gravetye for this special anniversary of your parents. Sounds like all the family were captivated by our beautiful gardens. This time of year it is quite magical and it was great that the weather was kind enough for you to enjoy tea in the garden. Hope to see you back with us soon. Kind regards Andrew Thomason Managing Director

Stayed for one night with close family to celebrate my birthday. It really couldn't have been more perfect. Great food, great service, stunning house and gardens, playing croquet in the sun, breakfast in the garden... Absolutely super! Lovely walk to the nearby village. A special occasion that was really very special.

Picture this: Secreted away behind imposing gates deep in the heart of the English country side that once was. An extraordinary beautiful ancient English manor house, sensitively restored and converted into a beautiful country house hotel. No expense spared on attention to detail. And surrounded by the most ancient of gardens and woodland. An absolute treasure. Refined, and romantic, sophisticated. Particularly suited for couples and a group of close friends. Not really for young families. And only a short distance away form Gatwick airport. In my view, one of the best hotels I have had the pleasure of visiting in the UK

Room Tip: This is a very tranquil location. The loudest thing you will hear is the bird song in the morning...

I am so pleased you have discovered our ‘little gem’ Many couples and families have enjoyed Gravetye since it first became a hotel in 1958, and we have tried to retain and capture the true feel of a traditional English Manor House. With a mile long drive and well away from Gatwick airspace the bird song is very special. Thank you so much for sharing your experience. Kind regards, Andrew Thomason Managing Director

Just driving up the long entrance road/drive was a joy, lush with bluebells, trees and rhododendrums. The staff were very helpful, the lovely porter drove mama's wheelchair with gusto up the steepish slope round to the back garden. We sat and had drinks outside, a paradise after the joys of a busy M25 on a Bank Holiday. Two of our party went on the (free) garden tour with Tom, the gardener discovering the delights of the large walled garden with vegetables, salad leaves and fruit for the kitchen. The lunch was perfect, with wild asparagus being particularly memorable. the dishes were beautifully presented and choice was difficult. Most of all , the staff were knowledgeable and helpful. A perfect escape!

I am please you enjoyed your bank holiday Monday lunch at Gravetye Manor. The rhododendrons though late this year have been particularly lovely. We are getting some great produce from our walled kitchen garden which will continue to frame our daily menus throughout the summer. Kind regards, Andrew Thomason Managing Director

My husband and I recently stayed 3 nights at Gravetye and still are singing its praises. We have been visiting the Manor every couple of years since 1976 and have seen it through 3 owners and several staff changes. While it was always lovely and peaceful, it wasn't always perfection. Now it is. Our favorite room, Chestnut, has completed its renovation. Without diluting its charm it is now 21st century with a mini-bar, tea and coffee maker in the entrance/anteroom. It now has climate control, a truly comfortable sofa and easy chair, slate bathroom floor (no carpet!!), double sinks with single spouts, lots of room for personal toiletries and a shower/bath combination that is comfortable and easy to use. Most of the old furniture and paintings are in tact but all the fabrics and wall coverings are new and fresh. Under Andrew Thompson, the new manager, the staff balances efficiency with friendliness perfectly. Many familiar faces are still there: Emma at the front desk, Brian who whisks luggage to and from rooms. Even new faces like MIke, Samantha and Karolla got to know us quickly and made sure that we had whatever we needed and quickly. We dined at Gravetye all three nights and each night was terrific. Even though one night had a special dinner for 37 in the main dining room, we always felt unique and cared for. They remembered my husband adores Dover sole and had it specially for us the first night. The garden, of course, is world-famous and the best we have ever seen it. The gardening staff are making it as though William Robinson were still guiding them. What beauty. We will keep returning until we can no longer travel as this hotel is as good as it gets. There are so many places to visit within an hour of Gravetye that it makes a perfect center to tour from year after year. Pay the upcharge for a garden view. Nothing rivals this.

Room Tip: Pay the upcharge for a garden view.

Dear friends from Minnesota! How lovely of you to write a review, we consider you as friends of the house and a testament to how a hotel can survive the years, keeping a high standard but moving with the times but feeling timeless. You are right, more than ever guests are using Gravetye as a base to explore the south of England and it’s wealth of lovely properties and gardens. Hopefully see you next year, all the best Andrew Thomason Managing Director

A girlfriend and I went for the garden lunch menu. I had a delicious brochette and she had an open sandwich. We had a glass of wine each then discussed sharing another one as we were both driving. Two fresh glasses arrived with the wine divided exactly in half. Considering we were not great customers, ie not spending bundles that day, we were treated like royalty. We looked round the garden and kitchen garden. You have never seen a more exquisite garden in my opinion. We were breath taken. Now when you consider it is going to cost about £12? to get into a National Trust property, this made the lunch even better value. We paid £54. I have been to bistro pubs and paid the same. The staff were supreme paying attention to service without being at all intrusive. I left my makeup bag in the ladies. They rang me within minutes but my phone was still turned off. Hurray today I return to pick it up. I will have another lunch. Never think this place is out of your price bracket. The garden menu makes it accessible for occasions that are not just birthdays and anniversaries. Perfect for ladies who lunch.

Thank you for your review, I am so pleased the light lunch was a success and the weather was kind enough to enjoy the garden. What a pity you left your make-up bag here, but sounds like it was plan to come back! As you love the garden you might be interested in one of our garden tours followed by lunch? Our Autumn season of events will be on our website soon. Kind regards, Andrew Thomason Managing Director

We booked a special offer of dinner, bed and breakfast. On arrival, were greeted as we got out of the car, at reception, found that we had been upgraded to a fantastic room (Holly). Gardens were lovely, food was superb and service was brilliant. All staff were so helpful. My husband only likes warm beer, so the barman offered to find warm beer rather than give him what was in the cooler, whereas I like freezing cold wine. I ordered my wine an hour before dinner and the staff made sure it was on ice for a while before I went into dinner. I am always up early, but not at Gravetye. I managed to sleep in until after 8.30, as it is so quiet and peaceful. We checked out at 11, but as it was a lovely day, stayed in the garden for lunch and did not leave until 3pm. Will return, even if only for afternoon tea!!!
