“A quiet and tranquil haven, great location for days out in Devon and Cornwall”
Reviewed September 24, 2017 for a stay in September 2017

We arrived in the evening, it was dark and we were tired and hungry after our 8 hour drive from Norfolk so when we walked in and saw the lovely homemade cake that had kindly been left for us, we were delighted!

The barn is spotlessly clean, comfortable, functional and has everything you would expect and need, the bonus of a hot tub and the games room was brilliant and I would imagine if you were staying here with children they would prove invaluable. The upstairs bedroom had a TV, games, books etc with an ensuite shower room, although we didn't use it at all, it was a lovely large space with Velux windows giving views over the farm, fields and beyond.

It is tricky to find and the sat nav only gets you to the Holsworthy/Bridgerule area so make sure you follow Tony and Sue's directions! When out and about, take note of landmarks so you know which little roads to take (they all looked the same to us!)
As a base for visiting the local areas of Devon and Cornwall it's perfect, we were out every day and enjoyed Bude, Widemouth, Boscastle, Clovelly, Port Isaac, Tintagel and Padstow to name but a few.
We had our 4 month old puppy Broguen with us and for those with dogs, I can recommend the Downs at Bude (near the golf club and cricket pitch) it's a beautiful area where you can let the dogs off lead and they can have a right old romp about and also the beaches at Padstow and Instow are vast and flat and very dog-friendly. In fact, the whole area is very dog-welcoming, with adequate waste bins and bowls of water outside most shops, we found it really easy to go out for days with Broguen, sightseeing, shopping and eating out. Try the Chough Bakery bread, award-winning pasties, local cheese and Doom Bar to wash it all down with -you won't be disappointed.

This holiday cottage is very dog-welcoming with adjacent fields to walk your dog off-lead and they even provide dog towels so you can dry off after a wet/sandy day out, however from the photo's online it wasn't clear to us that the barn is open-plan. With a boisterous puppy who is used to being enclosed in a safe area overnight (the kitchen) this posed us with an initial problem and also he's unable to access the stairs at home so has never actually been upstairs either. We needn't have worried as he was so tired after his day's adventures he settled nicely in his bed in the lounge and we were just the other side of the door in the downstairs bedroom so could hear him if he became mischievous! He also didn't show any interest in going upstairs, helped by us not going up there either I think!

It's also worth mentioning that the garden is not fully enclosed, which we also didn't realise when we booked, and as this is a working cattle farm and the lovely owners have 2 dogs themselves this could prove problematic for some families with dogs and/or small children?

We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday here though and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to friends and family and return for future holidays.
