Having never been to the island I loved it the minute Dave boated into the cove. Helen and Dave were brilliant hosts. We arrived Friday afternoon. Dave showed us the kayaks and away we went exploring the area. Friday night had dinner on the deck overlooking the cove, where we met the other guests who were all very delightful and lots of fun. Saturday we explored the track behind the Lodge, which took us up over the ridge to a lookout point. There is an option to take the track right down to the other bay, but we were happy to view from the top. A lot of work has been put into the track with some very interesting objects to note. Dave took us and another couple over to Mansion House in the afternoon, where we had a couple of hours exploring the superbly renovated house; and the walk up to the Coppermine. We were picked up about 4pm by Dave returning to North Cove with a tiki tour in and around the other coves. To end this review - I can confirm our room was very comfortable, clean and a great view.

Room Tip: All comfortable.

My husband & I stayed with Helen and Dave during New Year for our honeymoon, and loved every minute of it. Helen and Dave are so incredibly warm and loving that you feel you're just at home.
Helen is an incredible cook and Dave deftly took care of our other needs e.g. whenever our glass was dry. ;) We enjoyed staying in their units and having a beautiful breakfasts on our balcony looking across the water, and enjoying Helen's home-made muesli and fresh fruit it was all just very relaxing.
They very kindly let us use their kayaks where we went off one day exploring and found a private nearby coves and had a Romantic picnic just the two of us. Dave even drove past checking we were okay, So you always felt that you are in good hands. The islands are beautiful unspoiled part of the world and I took a number of photos not only just of the island but of Helens lovely garden, were you definitely feel there is a lot of pride and love that goes into not only just the garden but in the accommodation.
I would definitely tell my friends and family about staying with them if they're heading to New Zealand, We our from the UK and if we ever have the chance to go back we would not miss out visiting them as it will also be lovely to go back up memory lane ( honeymoon), so we truly do hope we go again sometime soon. ;) My husband and I truly recommend you to stay with Helen and Dave and we're sure that on the day you leave you will wish to stay another day.

What a special experience. The wildlife was abundant, scenery amazing and the hospitality fabulous. All tucked away in a little part of heaven. I'm not sure if it is generic kiwi warmth or just Helen and Dave's unique style but it works. Thank you

The trip on the boat to North Cove on Kawau felt like we were getting far away from our home in Auckland. A tranquil and remote setting, with water and bush, no roads or cars or city sounds. Peaceful and panoramic local walks of different lengths and difficulties. Great welcoming hospitality by Dave and Helen, our hosts. Rooms look out to the inlet, with deck and outdoor living almost directly above the waters edge. Plenty of facilities for water activities such as kayaking, and availability for excursions around the island on the Lodge boat, with Dave as an extremely well informed and entertaining guide.

It was SO good the first time...we had to go again! The first time we stayed at Kawau Lodge was our honeymoon. As we tried to think of somewhere to go for our second wedding anniversary... it hit us "Why not go back to Kawau Lodge?" ...especially because we have often reminisced about our first stay there :) Second time around it did not dissappoint! The cooking, the company of Dave and Helen and the beauty of the place was wonderful!! We HIGHLY recommend this place and we are sure that if you go once, you will want to go a second time too ! :)
