“loved this hotel”
Reviewed November 18, 2007

my teenage daughter and i stayed here for three nights in nov 07 and thought it was great. rooms were very clean and well maintained the pool and spa area were wonderful after a very full day of fun activities. our only gripe was the the sofa bed in room 403 needs to be replaced as you can feel the bars under the bed when you lay on it. we ended up putting the matress on the floor. secure car parking was also very good. staff could not have been nicer and the resturant attached to the hotel has excellent food and service. i have no problem recommending this hotel to others as this area is very quiet and close to the beach (just across a small quiet street). i hope to return here in the future, but i do hope they replace that sofa bed!!!!

My partner and I chose this hotel based on the pictures and description on the Trendwest resorts website online. We were very disappointed to reach the hotel and find that the rooms were terribly small and poky. Every morning, a strong, pungent odour was omitted from the body of water in front of the hotel - when the tide was out (Pumicestone Passage). You couldn't keep the balcony doors open at that time. It was a ten minute drive to get to a main beach so don't stay here if you don't have a hire car. There was a redback spider in the bathroom which was very frightening. I am sorry that I picked this hotel and I think you could find many suitable hotels in Caloundra for the money that we paid for a supposed 4 star resort.

  • Disliked — Small rooms, pungent odour from waterfront, distance to main part of the city

We (parents, daughter 16) stayed at Worldmark Caloundra on the invitation of Trendwest after attending one of their timesharing seminars. We quite liked the place. The suite though very small was practically laid out and nicely furnished. The view over Pumicestone Passage as many others have said is of course to die for. Boating, fishing and swimming literally on the doorstep. We found the staff very courteous. When we arrived they put us on the ground floor, no view, we asked to be moved and they put us on level 9! The whole establishment seemed to be scrupulously clean and well maintained (compare the bathroom to the chronic bathrooms in a lot of European resorts for example!) The car park was very accessible, secure and easy to use compared to many and again VERY clean (clean carparks yet!) We'd happilly stay there again.......even if we had to pay (at the standard and given the XXXXXX position this place is not expensive)! However, I wouldn't expect to stay anywhere on the Sunshine Coast without a car, it's strung out and personal transport is de rigeur.

  • Liked — position, presentation, cleanliness, staff courteousy, value
  • Tips/Secrets — ask to be put above level 4 for the fantastic views

We were recommended the Worldmark by our travel agent after requesting a "relaxing holiday where we could sit by the pool in the day and head out to nice eateries and bars at night". We were disappointed on all counts.
On arrival at the hotel we were pleased to find that the staff were both friendly and efficient and the room, though small, was adequate for us, spotlessly clean and had a nice view over to Caloundra.
Unfortunately we were unable to relax for the whole of our stay due to the loud and poorly behaved children in the pool. No attempt was made by either parents or the hotel staff to control the noise so the pool was unuseable by anyone-else. We attempted to retreat to our room and relax on our balcony but as all rooms overlook the pool, even 5 floors up the noise was deafening!
The pool area itself is small but nicely landscaped, however the whole area, and all balconies, are in the shade of the hotel from 1pm onwards.
We were very glad of the car as there is nothing in Caloundra except apartments. We spent 20 minutes each evening driving upto Moololooba, which we found we loved, for good dining and bars. Likewise in Noosa.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone without children.

  • Liked — Good view
  • Disliked — Miles from anything and too much noise
  • Tips/Secrets — Read reviews, don't take the word of your travel agent!

First up, the apartments in this complex are TINY... we had a 1 bdrm apartment. It was the size of most studio rooms I have stayed in. The bedroom was not totally separate from the lounge either - only a roller blind around it which had big gaps so no noise protection. We were going away with our 21 month old toddler so this was very unsuitable, and we feel we should have been made aware of it. It meant that after she went to sleep in the portacot (which barely fitted in the bedroom - you couldn't walk right around it) we couldn't make any noise because it was like we were in the same room.
The balcony was small but adequate.
The lounge was tiny. The kitchen was also, not enough bench space or area to put our food.
The bathroom was good, very spacious, the spa bath lovely, hot water plentiful and shower had good pressure. We ended up storing our suitcase in the bathroom as it had spare room which the bedroom did not!
The overall condition of the room was good. Very clean.
The pool area was very nice, but very small for the number of rooms.
The childrens playground was small, and could have been better.
The location was adequate, but not walking distance to the beach.
The restaurant did great Thai in the evening. However, the breakfasts were barely adequate. The buffet (at a cost of $12.50 per person) had only 3 types of cereal, no yoghurt, no fruit, no fresh rolls etc. And in the hot food there was only bacon, sausages, eggs and tomatoes. No hash browns, no mushrooms, no baked beans, no pancakes or any of the other bits and pieces you would expect in an "all you can eat' buffet in a hotel.
The service was adequate, not overly friendly but not bad either.
I was not that impressed with Caloundra. I have stayed at Noosa before and much preferred it there.

We have recently returned from a month's holiday in Australia.
Firstly, this hotel is called the Worldmark Golden Beach and not the Rendezvous as in the previous write up.
When we arrived the resort staff were extremely pleasant and very helpful.
We were given the keys to our apartment which was a two bedroomed apartment - the second bedroom had twin beds, was very small and dark and therefore it could not be considered for two couples but only suitable for a family with young children. The kitchen was very basic and not really somewhere designed for cooking as there was no oven, only a small microwave, two hot plates, a kettle and toaster. The china and cutlery were perfectly clean and adequate.
Our bedroom was just about okay but you could not term it as comfortable. There was a bath in the bedroom and a separate toilet. A shower in the second bedroom and again a separate toilet.
The pool was spotless, however, very small. There were seven sunchairs and two or three upright chairs for the whole resort and bearing in mind this resort holds just over 500 people this was the most amazing thing ! the pool area is not opened until 8am in the morning but stays open during the evening until quite late allowing teenagers to congregate there.
We had a beautiful balcony and wonderful view of the Pumicestone Passage which is on the Sunshine Coast just 40 miles from Brisbane, in fact we have never had such a wonderful view from our balcony
We enjoyed our stay as we drove to a nearby beach each day.
It is essential to have a car as Caloundra is a very small place and there are only one or two restaurants, one of which had closed down when we were there leaving just a Thai restaurant to choose from and although it was good and we like Thai food it was not what we wanted to eat every night when we were in Australia.
Overall, I would say this is a perfectly acceptable property - ideal for families but certainly not couples who are looking for any sort of luxury in their holiday.
