“Adventurous location”
Reviewed January 21, 2014

If you are looking for culture, lovely mountain views, nearby fun things to do, a serene environment, then Panviman is a great place to stay. The only downside is that it is quite outside town but the hotel provides free transportation twice a day into town and back. I and my Fiancée spent 3 days at Panviman resorts for our Honeymoon in January 2014. It started with us meandering through long hilly roads which provided pleasant views of the mountainous terrain in this area of Chiang Mai. The Hotel is up top a hill and offers beautiful nature of the countryside. The staff were quite friendly and always very helpful. We spent a whole day at the hotel itself exploring some of its offerings like human sized chess board, archery, swimming pool, cycling, spa, etc. This is also a fab location for pictures (if that interests you). We also visited the nearby Elephant farm and Tiger kingdom (must not miss). I found the cost for the hotel and food relatively better than all the other hotels we visited considering what it offers. Overall, we had a pleasant experience and would recommend and visit again

Room Tip: The High mountain view rooms are great

We stayed in the Panviman over New Year and by and large, our experience was a pleasant one. However, there are some minor issues, which could easily be fixed, that could improve the experience. These, individually may seem like petty complaints, but collectively they do have an impact on any decision to return or not.
Examples:
There was no milk or creamer with the tea and coffee in the room and despite asking for some, it never appeared, nor did any apology or explanation.
Housekeeping failed to refill the shampoo and bath gel bottles and the mossie repellent pad when cleaning the room; The lemongrass oil burner was list only once on our arrival and never again, nor were candles or matches left for us to light it.
There was no information in the room about what to do in the area; when/if the yoga centre was open etc
We chose to sit outside at breakfast and only when we went to get something to eat were we told that those tables were reserved - there was no sign on them, so we would need to have been telepathic to know this.
We booked the shuttle bus into town which was meant to have left at 11am and were only told that it would be delayed by half an hour when we turned up at the lobby at 10.50am and my husband spoke to reception about something else. It would have been helpful if reception had phoned our room to tell us of the delay, rather than have us wait around in the lobby. As it turned out, by 11.45am there was still no sign of the bus and it was only because we complained that an alternative shuttle was laid on.

These are all minor issues which could be eradicated by better training. The staff are undoubtedly extremely pleasant and charming, but maybe lack that foresight and empathy for the guest experience that make a resort top class.

The rooms are a little bit tired, but overall, this is quite a nice resort, with beautiful scenery. It wouldn't take much to make it top class - mostly that would be in staff training - teaching people to anticipate needs and empowering them to come up with alternative solutions to problems; Developing and enforcing SOPs regarding room cleaning; check-in etc.

One final negative point, I know it was cold, but it looks a lot more professional to have staff in uniforms rather than sporting a variety of jumpers and sweatshirts over their uniforms. Often it was difficult to tell who actually worked at the hotel Surely the hotel can afford to buy their staff warm winter uniforms.

I would like to end on a more positive note, because our time at the hotel was by no means unpleasant, but plagued with minor niggles Our experience at the Spa, was absolutely faultless. The massage that both of us had was truly wonderful and extremely relaxing, in a beautiful environment.

This resort is about an hour and fifteen minutes from the airport up a windy mountain road. As a result, we never saw the city of Chiang Mai since we didn't want to spend the time or money getting back to town once we finally got to the resort. That was disappointing but the resort is very relaxing if that's what you're looking for. Panmivan is a peaceful mountain retreat. It feels like something out of the Catskills in the 50's and could use some updating but is charming.
We booked a High Mountain View room but the view was really of trees and wasn't high. If you don't go in expecting luxury, you won't be disappointed. The beds are hard and AC is controlled by a contraption next to the bed (we didn't figure this out for a day). Walls/floors are thin so you can hear people above you. The balcony overhangs need to be cleaned. We got the sense the resort had just reopened after monsoon season when we were there in November, so things weren't running at 100%.
The food is great, but gets a bit repetitive since there's only one restaurant.
The pool and grounds are lovely and induce calm. The "fitness center" isn't what I expected. It's outdoors with really old equipment.
Staff is attentive and tries to respond to all requests to the best of their ability.
Spa is a great value. I had the best massage ever there.
We did a side trip to the Four Seasons for dinner to do something different. I highly recommend the Elephant Nature Park. They do not ride the elephants. You spend the day feeding, washing and walking among rescued elephants. It was one of the highlights of our trip to Thailand.
Despite the distance from Chiang Mai, I am glad we stayed at Panmivan. It provided a different and unexpected experience and I definitely left feeling rested.

Great location and architecture but the worst service ever had…

This hotel is impressive because he has one of the best architecture and location ever seen in the North of Thailand.
First feeling when you arrive: all the swimming pool and SPA surroundings are stunning.
Golf cars to drop you where you want, large lobby, etc… You are sure to find a good value for money.
Unfortunately it is only the first impression.
We had a High Mountain View room. It is not actually so high and there is no view at all except a large tree just in front of the balcony. The terrace is almost too large because useless and empty except a small and dirty sofa. The walls and the floor are dirty as well. You won't spend pleasant time seating in this outdoor. Only one window facing a road and 2 strait doors to the terrace. This High Moutain view description is a fake.
The room is not clean as expected in this kind of hotel. 2 lights are out of order and will stay during our stay. There are no batteries in the scale. The mattress is the stronger ever had. As the hotel looks almost empty, we ask for another room or ideally an upgrade. The manager says NO the hotel is full, notably for the better categories, then no upgrade possible.

Early in the afternoon, as the swimming pool is in the shade, we decided to go to the lobby to have a tea. When we arrived all the tables were occupied by empty cups, tea sets and glasses. Nobody is sitting but everything is still dirty. Nobody is clearing and tidying tables to allow us to seat. Finally we find a clean table and have a tea. It is 4:30pm.
When we arrived at 8:30pm to have a cocktail before dinner, all the tables were still dirty with the tea sets from the afternoon. Incredible, you feel being no longer in Thailand with its usual perfect service!
Globally, the staff is not friendly neither professional. Housekeeping is incredibly disappointing. Management is very weak to accept this.

We tried the SPA and it was a real pleasure. Very nice and peaceful place, very good quality of massage. Very friendly and professional staff.

Room Tip: the High Mountain view rooms are not so high and no real view. the extra charge isn't worth it.

Absolutely beautiful hotel located in the mountains. The spa was fantastic. We spent four nights in early December. Very warm during the day and cold at night because its winter. Because of that we could not use the pool as it was freezing. Abit disappointed it wasn't heated because we could have spent our days swimming. Also the outdoor gym looks great but isn't very functional, very old equipment that doesn't work properly.

Stayed 4 nights in jacuzzi villa. Loved the lovely views and refreshing air up in the resort. Breakfast was really dining with view. Watch the sunrise at activity corner and you will be rewarded. Only complaint was that it was really freezing in the room at night; portable heater would have been very handy. Tip: make your own transport arrangement with taxi company or rental... Definitely cheaper

Panviman Resort is a 360 degree paradise! We spend 4 wonderfull days in this gorgeous Resort in the hills of Pong Yaeng. This is a unique place if you like lovely views wherever you look you can see the landscape.
The resort is nicely designed in elegant contemporary Lana style. Also the food is excellent with vegetables from thier own organic garden. The breakfast is a joy with homemade Bread and a large choice of Friese food. Don''t forget to ask for a cappuccino!
The Tai team of Paviman is kind and helpfull. We did not try the Spa, but we enjoyed the hudge fresh swimminool.
If you love nature and tranquillity combines with good food on a distance of one hour from Chiang
Mai Theo we can recommend you this Resort.
