“Great for lovers of feral dogs and false website advertising!”
Reviewed June 27, 2013

To start off with, the hotel does not provide rental bicycles, dinner, or spa services. These services are all listed on the booking sites and the hotel's website. I paid in advance through a booking site, so there was no way of getting my money back. A pool is also promised, but please note that this pool is not properly cleaned or maintained. It was full of insect carcasses and perhaps a sanitation risk.
On a positive note, the hotel is decorated with tasteful furniture and sculptures, making it extremely photogenic. However, a hotel is not a furniture showroom, it should also be functional.
This hotel was not.
This hotel is completely unsuitable if you do not have your own transportation. There is no food on site except for an overpriced breakfast (180 baht for a very simple "American Breakfast"). There are no bicycles available, although they are promised on the booking sites.
The dogs are the worst part. They are aggressive and noisy and will threaten you as you attempt to leave or enter the property, for example if you take a walk to buy some dinner. I spotted at least 8 unleashed dogs in the immediate area. They will bark at 3:00 in the morning and prevent you from getting a restful sleep.
The air conditioners in the room seem old and it was not easy to adjust them to a comfortable temperature. The windows also lack blinds that prevent the morning light from coming in (they were held together by clothespins). The hotel has a considerable number of rooms, but only a very small number were occupied. It would not surprise me if opperations were in the red.
I was supposed to stay two nights, but ended up leaving after the first. No refund or apology was offered.

This hotel is beautiful, quiet, and everything you need to escape the craziness of the average SE Asia tourist hub. While it is a solid 30 minute drive to Chiang Mai, it's well worth it. The rooms are large, with separate entrance area, bedroom, and large bathroom with walk-in shower. The furniture is beautiful and uniquely carved wood.
I loved the architecture of the hotel, all the statues and carvings, it was great. I often sat by the entrance in a lounge chair reading a book I grabbed at the lobby.
Breakfast wasn't huge but it was enough - eggs, toast, meet and fruit. Perfect portion.
The staff was really great. The cook went out of his way to make us food whenever we wanted something to eat, despite the fact that there seemed to be only 4 rooms occupied at that point.
The pool was awesome, super chill and nice to hang out in.
The location is close to some ATV and bamboo river rafting companies, and the Mae Sim waterfalls.
All in all, I loved this hotel and have recommended it to a number of other colleagues and friends in Bangkok. If you are ok with staying out of town, this is a great place to do it.

Room Tip: I stayed in room 206, it was really nice!

One of the first things that I noticed when checking in was the amazing architecture and design of this hotel. It felt like I was staying at a historical site. The staff are really friendly and, although English does not bode well, they will do anything for you. I asked if they hire out scooters and whilst they don't they offered to let me rent the cooks scooter for the day.

Pro's:
Spacious rooms.
Friendly staff.
Amazing pool.
Breakfast was freshly cooked for me (they need better fly protection than plastic wrap for the fruit)
Close to some attractions including orchid garden and animal shows. (avoid the croc show unless you like watching a trainer antagonise a croc for 10 mins, stick his arm down its throat, his head in its mouth and then invite you to sit on the croc for tips)

Cons:
You really need a car, scooter or be prepared to pay for taxis to stay here.
Some of the fixtures and fittings are showing their age. One example is my wash basin leaked.
Curtains are sparse will prevent you sleeping in. Held open by pegs.
There were no English channels on my TV. Bring a book if you don't speak Thai.

All up I really enjoyed my few nights here.

This hotel is beautiful, quaint and the staff are wonderful.

We had a pleasant stay here, and enjoyed the food and serenity. Be weary when reading about it's location online, it states it is near the National park, which it is but be aware this is a twenty minute drive in a taxi to Chiang Mai city. There is no other way than taxi to get to and from the hotel, as TukTuks will refuse to take you back to the hotel as it is too far out of town. The hotel staff do everything in their power to make sure it's easy to get to your destination and will arrange taxi's daily. They are also happy to book and make reservations for day trips and adventures.

It is clear the hotel is a family business, who are all so welcoming and friendly. The decor is rustic and simple. The chef in the evenings make a wonderful red curry!
This hotel is a bike rides distance to the tiger kingdom, and lots of outdoor explorer style day trip activities.

Room Tip: Hope to get a room with space from the pool, as you can hear frogs all night.

I didn't originally think too much of this place..

Bad points

Room although nice was a bit smelly from the moisture of shower room. Curtains stank and they weren't very good curtains.. People could see in if they tried

Food was average

Thought it was expensive with charging us 500baht to put a mattress and covers on floor for our 4 year old

Good points

It's a pretty looking hotel, with some great architecture.
Overall ok
But this place needs a special mention of service level and especially the one main front office chap whom spoke good English. He really did treat us well. To the point we're they even found us in the airport after my wife left her mobile in back of their taxi. We so grateful..

For their efforts and honesty alone they deserve excellent rating

If one is looking for a Chedi or Four Seasons experience, then this place is definitely not for you. My overall experience with Muang Gudi is perfect!!!

** Duration of Stay - 1 Week.

Pros
- the Manager (Mr Pong) and staff are friendly, attentive and helpful, they will go out of the way to assist you.  They are also flexible with almost every request we made. (though we have to speak to them slowly in Simple English)
- it just a 20-30 mins drive away from town / night bazaar.
- the room / bed / bed sheet are clean. The Manager made an effort to check and prepare the room, making sure everything is ok before handing over the keys to you.
- they have a driver (Mr Dew) who is in charge of our airport land transfer. He is friendly, very knowledgeable, and does not take you for a ride. Ended up,he became our tour organizer :) With our consent, he arranged activities for us, eg. Zip lining in the forest, water rafting, elephant farm (mahout for a day), tribe village (long neck ladies), ATV...etc
- it's a place away from the hustle and bustle of town.
- wifi

Cons
- the hotel exterior will probably need a repaint.
- as it's away from town, it's important to stock up on tidbits, drinks...etc by stopping over at convenience store (probably on your way back from your activities)

We stayed at this resot as the pictures were very impressive and it explained that the resort was only a short trp from town. The architecture and layout of the hotel was great and the rooms were clean and spacious. but is was over 30 minutes from Chiang city and the service was very poor and the operators of the hotel struggled at times to deliver a service that we were paying for. reconsider your visit if you are thinking of staying here.

Room Tip: Choose a hotel close to Chiang Mai !
