We intended to stay at this hotel for 4 nights and use is as a base to explore the surrounding Northern Thailand attractions and countryside. We quickly realised that Thai design, hospitality and culture as evident at the hotel is really what we came to discover. Chiang Mai is definitely worth a full day, but after that it was Thai cuisine, spa, bicycles, walks in and around the hotel.

Room Tip: Go big if you can, the pool villas are the ticket - privacy, space, pool, jacuzzi and really good pe...

Nothing but accolades for the design, cuisine and standards of service displayed in this luxury property. Special mention to Khun Jee, our waitress at Sala Mae Rim, who conjured our every request with grace and an intriguing charisma. Khun Kosin, the hotel sommelier, is a passionate and engaging professional who has created a wine program worthy of more international acclaim.

Our only misgiving, however, was the abundance of nouveau-riche guests from the "middle kingdom" unable to display an internationally-acceptable level of social etiquette or civility. One hopes this is not the demographic being sought for this gorgeous hotel...

The hotel irritated me at first. It is far from the critical tourist sites and from the fun areas of town (45 minutes each way). It is also a 40 minute drive from the airport. Also, the resort at first glance looked somewhat artificial.

But somehow, I don't know how, every minute more that I spent at the property became more wonderful. Even the look of the property grew on me. Ask for a room overlooking the rice fields. The service is excellent. The pool area is lovely and the pool area staff are very attentive.

We also reluctantly decided to eat dinner at the resort. Our decision to eat there, turned into one of the best Thai meals of our trip.

And then I saw the spa. I have never seem something as exquisite as their spa. And the treatments are excellent. But back to the spa, who ever designed it, should get a design award.

We were upgraded to a Pool Villa. Magnificent. We had our own jacuzzi, pool and all in total privacy. The garden behind outside showers. We were only there for 3 nights and ended up eating all of our meals in the Thai restaurant. Great food, great service and a truly beautiful location.

This is beautiful hotel. Exactly what you would expect from Four Seasons. We went off season, August, 2008. It was spectacular, though warm. We did a cooking class which is not to miss. They really think of everything there. We did book our own tour guide though. We had 2 days with him and it was private, much of the day, and about a third the price of the Four Seasons Resorts. We didn't want to be so conspicuous, in a big four seasons van. I just wish we were closer!

I am late writing this review. My wife and I stayed at this resort in Jan 2014 for a few days. This is a beautiful property which transports you back to life as it was. Some have complained that this resort is artificial, which in some ways it may be, but the city of Chiang Mai is certainly no longer a accurate representation of what it once was either.
This is serene resort which allows for the opportunity to explore the region, but also allows you to escape to a quiet serene place.
I recommend a room with a upper rice terrace view. The rooms are outstanding. Also the food at the resort is very good. The staff could not be more helpful and accommodating .
It is of course expensive , but if you stay here you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: Book an upper terrace rice field view.

Well laid out resort. The room we had was ideal with an outside area to sit, relax and take in the surroundings.
All staff were very attentive & helpful.
The resort is someway out of Chiang Mai but also on the way to some activities. Not hard to get transport to go where you need. Alternatively just relax by the pool.
