“Gem of an hotel”

Recently had a one night stay with friends. Was made very welcome, nothing was too much trouble, extremely friendly staff. Nice little touches in the room, bottles of water by the bed. Crisps, cakes and chocolate with the tea tray. Two easy chairs in front of the TV which had a dvd player. Little touches that make a difference. Lovely little bar, well stocked and prices reasonable. The hotel is set by a lake with lovely views and very quiet. Then there is the food, that was fantastic, reasonable prices but so well cooked and presented with divine tastes. A lovely breakfast was also served. Can't wait to return.

Just returned from a two night stay, we had Room 9, and would agree with the previous comments about the water pressure, but apart from that, and a drippy kettle, with no tray which meant the furniture marked as it was pine, were very comfortable indeed. The thing that really made our stay was the food. We ate in the restaurant on both nights and cannot praise the chef highly enough. The best steak I have ever eaten. In fact we are seriously considering the Christmas package on the strength of it!

We stayed here for three nights earlier this month, and, at first, got what we expected...very rural, peaceful, and in a lovely setting. Our room cost £100 per night, and was spacious if a little rustic.
The staff were welcoming and always helpful....nothing was too much trouble. The restaurant food was homespun and enjoyable.......coffee outside by the lake was an extra bonus.
All was well until, on our second day, we came back to find that, although teacups had been changed in our room, nothing else had been cleaned or even touched. We spent all four days with the same towels, with bathroom and bedroom bins full to the brim....and, worst of all, without the joy of returning after a full day to find our beds made!
Great location, great atmosphere, great staff,,,,,,but awful management!

Room Tip: It seemed as though all rooms enjoyed great rural views

Conveniently located for the Royal Wesh Showground in Llanelwedd (5 miles) and Llandrindod Wells (1 mile) and a short walk into Howey (or £4 taxi), a small village with one pub - The Laughing Dog - and a Thai Restaurant - The Drovers.
We received a warm welcome. The room we were allocated (Room 9) looked ok at first (not great but ok). The basics are included - kettle, hairdryer, tv and some nice extras - crisps, chocolate, hot water bottle (why not put a thicker duvet on the bed?). No tissues. The wardrobe was tacky and should be replaced. The bathroom was well decorated but as a previous reviewer has said the positioning of the toilet roll holder was odd and there were no tumblers by the sink. The water pressure wasn't great and I gave up running a bath after 10 minutes as it would've taken an age and took a shower instead. Nice big towels. The biggest disappointment was the mattress - it was truly awful and spolied our stay completely. Full of lumps and you could feel every button on it. Had a dreadful nights sleep. Please get a new matress or a the very least a topper. Had we realised what it was like we would've raised the issue but we returned to the hotel late at night. Blackout curtains wouldn't go amiss either - when the lights went on in the bar at 2.30am (staff clearing up?) the light shone into the room as the curtains are on a pole and not flush with the walls. The small bar in the hotel serves one lager and one beer on tap - the rest is bottled. The restaurant/breakfast room is well positioned and looks out onto the small lake. Breakfast was ok (just ok). We had expected more given the reviews on here. We paid £90 and didn't feel that this was good value for money. The staff we dealt with were efficient but some of the decor (amateur wallpapering) and definitely some of the furnishings lets the Three Wells down. All in all a disappointment.

Room Tip: Avoid Room 9 - it's above the bar so expect to hear talking - but until they replace the matress...

Recently stayed for a long weekend on a biking holiday in mid Wales. The location is fantastic! Very peaceful and quite with lovely grounds around the hotel. A nice place for an even walk before dinner. The food was wonderful with all produce sourced from within 10 miles. The staff were attentive and helpful. I stayed in a large twin room with good views across the country side. It was clean and everything worked (television, hairdryer, wifi). I would love to stay again and would imagine its just as beautiful in all seasons.

We selected this hotel because of the good reviews. It wasn't the cheapest but we thought we would treat ourselves. We were so disappointed with the hotel that it spoilt our weekend.
The first room we were allocated was unacceptable. The bathroom radiator was leaking brown gunge, the toilet roll holder was fixed so that it was behind your shoulder. It meant it was impossible to reach and made sitting on the toilet uncomfortable. The room was badly set out, there was no socket near the mirror so you wouldn't be able to see to dry your hair. We complained about the room and we were moved to another. The bathroom was much better designed. but there was no mirror in the bedroom at all. There was only one pair of sockets, one for the TV and one for and an extension lead for the kettle. The kettle was directly above the extension socket - any drips/spills from the kettle would have fallen on the live socket. The only window in the bedroom was a full length patio door which could not be opened. The owners knew that the lock was broken but hadn't had it repaired. The only way to get ait into the room was to open the bathroom window and leave the bathroom door open. The room was not very clean. There were cobwebs round the curtains which weren't attached properly. The bedside lamps were dusty and when we moved the sofa to be near the window it was filthy behind it. The mirror in the bathroom was dirty and there were dirty splashes on the inside of the bathroom door. The bathroom floor wasn't very clean. The bed linen and some of the towels were stained.
When the room was serviced the shower wasn't cleaned and the dirt in the corner were the sofa had been wasn't hovered. We had to go and ask for more loo paper. The food was overpriced and only of average quality. The only good thing about the place was the location.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else!

We enjoyed a very pleasant stay at The Three Bells and it was exactly what we needed in terms of peaceful location, comfort and excellent food. The room (15) was more like a suite on the top floor with lovely views and adjoining sitting room. Evening meal delicious and breakfast the next morning. The staff were very polite and helpful. We are looking forward to a return visit.
