“Charming B&B in a charming place”
Reviewed October 4, 2013 via mobile

Loved the Sea View B&B. The upstairs bedrooms open out onto the upstairs deck and have a fabulous view of the ocean and the cape. There's a shared kitchenette with a refrigerator and coffee/tea making supplies. There's also a fireplace in the sitting area of the kitchenette. When we returned from dinner our host Dennis had a roaring fire going and it was toasty warm in there - much appreciated as it was quite a cold and windy night. The next morning he made us a delicious hot breakfast. Just know that Cape Bridgewater is very isolated so you will have to drive about 20 minutes into Portland for dinner.

If you're willing to divert for half an hour from the main route, this is a great spot to spend a night or two. Interesting area to explore and the house is very sociable with an excellent breakfast. If you're only used to sterile chains and motels, its probably not your place. But if you want something interesting, different and social, its the right one.

We stayed only one night here, passing through, but wished we could have stayed longer.
Dennis, the host, is friendly and chatty, although this might be off putting for some.
The lodge itself is a big old house, with all seperate rooms. I would say this place is good for people wanting to chat with other travellers and make new friends. There is a communal kitchen/tv room etc, but each room has its own bathroom.
Its directly across from a gorgeous beach and is a lovely location, although it is a 15-20min drive into Portland (closest town) if you want a meal out/shops.
We had a fantastic cooked breakfast the next morning - try the mushrooms (wonderful) and pankcakes (so big and fluffy).

The Lodge is built like an old english country house, situated about 100 Meters of the wonderful beach.Only a street is between house and ocean. We have had room two with a spabath with wonderful seaview. The bed in the room was comfortable, the furniture english simple. In the room there was no fridge and no TV. You have a fridge in a small kitchen for all guests and TV in an other room for all. For one or two days Seaview is a good stay, but a t t e n t i o n ! there are no shops or restaurants in this region. There is only a cafe, closing 5 pm every day.

Room Tip: Room 2 with spa is beautiful

Thank you so much for your review. Just some points regarding the Bridgewater Bay Cafe and its opening hours.
From from Boxing day (26/12) they are open every night till end of January. At Easter time they are open till late as well.
During other times of the year they are open every Friday night till late and other days shut at 5pm, unless something special is happening in Bridgewater Bay.
For my guests, you can always buy some of the lovely food from the cafe and heat it up in our kitchenette upstairs at Seaview Lodge.

Spent two nights in the King room and had a wonderful stay, view from the balcony was amazing , cross the road and you are on the most beautiful stretch of unspoilt beach, magic! Breakfast is supplied each morning and cooked perfectly to your liking. Dennis is a wonderful host and it is a wonderful place to stay and recharge, will be back sooner rather than later.

Room Tip: Any of the balcony rooms for the views

Superb. Very relaxing. Stress free. Excellent sea views. Host Dennis was friendly and excellent. Certainly did not impose on us. Good nights sleep followed by a great breakfast. We loved this place and would stay again.

A group of us stayed at Seawater Lodge for a week while walking sections of the Great Southwest walk. It is a wonderful facility with 5 double rooms all with ensuites, 3 of which overlook the ocean. The rooms were excellent, as was the breakfast, and Dennis was a welcoming, and attentive host.
We would all recommend it highly, particularly as a launching pad for sections of the Great South West Walk

Room Tip: Ocean facing rooms are preferable
