Owner description: A seasonal outdoor cafe and plant nursery set within a small and pretty walled garden in the village of Mells. Open from March to the end of October.

We walked from Frome along the river on a beautiful sunny Sunday hoping to have lunch here having enjoyed the pizzas previously. On arrival at 12.45 we queued for ten minutes and then made our lunch order of pizza only to be informed by the young man behind the counter that he didn't think they would be serving food as they were fulfilling a bulk order for a christening party at the adjacent barn. The chef bluntly confirmed that they would not be cooking anything for at least an hour.
This would have been fine had we known beforehand but there was nothing on the website, Facebook page or even a sign outside to indicate this.
Fortunately we found somewhere else in the village for lunch that was more welcoming. Also, the plants on sale were really of poor quality and the garden seemed neglected. Unfortunately it seems that this previously lovely place has gone downhill.

Thankyou so much for your feedback and I am sorry your recent experience didn't meet your expectations. The garden is dying down for the season and transitioning to its own desolate winter beauty and we are busy in the nursery preparing our stock for next season. I hope you can visit again when we reopen in spring 2018 and see it come to life.

All the best

Sit anywhere in the far from twee gardens. Lovely staff/friendly/ helpful - cakes as always first rate. Tea and good company in a garden of delights - what more can you want.

We have visited the Church in Mells before but this time, decided to combine it with a visit to the Walled Garden. Some interesting shrubs etc., but, and because of the time of year, undergoing a good sort out. We decided to have coffee and cake in the cafe and I have to say, this absolutely made the trip! They didn't have a scone left but offered me their last piece of apple cake; OH opted for lemon drizzle cake. My apple cake was warmed and came with unexpected clotted cream. It was absolutely delicious. OH's lemon drizzle similarly came with extra lemon on top and was pronounced delicious as well. The coffee arrived in a carafe and was very good.
This is definitely on the list to return to when we come this way again.

Beautiful location on the edge of the village overlooking gorgeous countryside and in a lovely garden with garden shop too. Excellent pizzas from their pizza oven and without doubt the best cream tea i've ever had

Came to Mells to look at the church, which was in itself amazing, and came across the Walled Garden quite by accident but what a find. Lovely setting and when fully restored will be an absolute gem....it was pretty good as it is though. Some really nice shrubs and perennials and lovely wrought iron railing features esp. around the pond. It started to rain, heavily!!, so just had to go under cover at the café and had lovely coffee and cake. Would certainly go out of my way to visit again. Might then try the pizza as the smell of wood burning was fantastic.
