Our dinner at the Talbot Inn was the standout meal we had during our 10 days on holiday in Somerset.

My mackerel with chorizo was superb and the kids were very happy with their talbot burgers, sausages and fish 'n' chips. Rhubarb terrine and knickerbocker glories for pudding were equally good. They served good non-alcoholic budvar by the bottle for the drivers.

The staff were very friendly and good with the children. We had a lovely time and felt it was very good value for money for the quality on offer.

We hope to be back one day - hopefully for an overnighter next time!

We didn't know what to order so asked for some help and the lady serving us was great. Everything she recommended, I ordered and all was delicious! It was pricey and more than I would have liked to have spent but it was definitely worth it. The breakfast the next morning was AMAZING - the best pain au chocolat I have ever had and I lived in Paris for 4 years! The presentation of the cold stuff was beautiful and I wanted to try everything on display. The cooked breakfast seemed small when it arrived but turned out the portion size was perfect, after my fill of home made muesli and croissants. Fab!

We met family members here for Saturday lunch today. First of all, they sat 4 of us at a rather cramped table, but we asked to move and were offered a big round table which was much better. I had a tasty starter of asparagus and egg, with parmesan shavings. My duck breast main course was a bit chewy but tasty, but the beans and lentil base was a bit undercooked so very 'al dente'. Others steak was apparently delicious, as was the Talbot burger.
Service was good.

We read a review in The Simple Things magazine and, as we were in the area, decided to have a meal. It was definitely worth it! The food was amazing, the staff was friendly and down-to-earth. The atmosphere in the dining area was perfect as well. Highly recommended!!!

We arrived tired on a Thursday evening. We had chosen The Talbot Inn based on reviews we had read and knowing that Matt (ex Babington House) was running the place we thought it was going to be good. It didn't disappoint. Arriving early evening on Thursday for dinner we were so pleased to have chosen to stay here. Down time is incredibly precious - we dumped our bags and headed straight for the bar and ordered a drink and some food. The ambience, the staff, the food sublime and the prices totally refreshingly reasonable. We totally loved our stay. The bedroom was fantastic (room 8) one of their biggest. Toiletries lovely. Only problem no milk for our morning cup of tea in bed. Breakfast inc in the room rate and just perfect. We love it here. They have it spot on and we will be back as soon as work life allows. Matt you know your stuff and you have some of the best staff - Justin, Georgia and Henry. Thank you - make sure nothing changes. PS if you fancy opening a similar place in Provence, make sure you give me a call either to help run it or to be one of your first guests. Well done.

Thank you so much for a lovely note - this really means a lot particularly for our staff. The truth is we are most certainly not perfect and so we will all always try to improve on all fronts. Provence sounds very appealing!
