“So lovely”
Reviewed April 29, 2013

We went here for lunch on Friday..and it was perfect. We were greeted with big smiles and though we hadn't booked a table (& it was full and buzzing) were shown to a table in the bar which was by no means second best as the menu is the same as is the decor & general feel, the same.
My husband had a roast beef sandwich (the beef was fabulously rare and on great bread) he declared the chips, 'the best he's ever eaten'
I had potted crab with griddled bread & mayonnaise which was just perfect & beautifully presented.
We had a good look around & will definitely be back for an overnight stay.

What a pleasure to stay in a British hotel, at a reasonable price, where they actually get everything right!
Having stayed in room 2, with our friends in room 4, I can say that they were airy and light, with comfortable beds and were very well equipped..... Even down to there being hair straighteners in addition to a hair dryer, which goes to show the amount of thought that had gone into it.
If you were staying for any length of time you might find the lack of wardrobe and cupboards frustrating, but as we were there for just the 1 night, no problem.
The bar is a focal point with children and dogs milling happily with the clientele.
Food in the main restaurant was excellent with the steak, always a good measure of ingredient and cooking ability, being both flavoursome well cooked.
Breakfast was a treat, with a very good selection and superb ingredients.
Finally, the staff. Without exception, all friendly and welcoming and wearing ready smiles.
Yup....this is how it should be.

Just had a wonderful stay at The Talbot, had a fabulous room - room 6. Loved the quirky touches. Daniel was great, thank you, made us feel very welcome and the other members of staff (sorry we can't remember your names) but special mention to the bar man who was also on breakfast. Food was great, the chocolate mouse was beautifully light, melted in your mouth! Would definitely recommend the pub and the village.

Room Tip: Room 6 is fab, it's got a bath in the bedroom (not for everyone but good fun), separate living a...

The rooms are well finished with very comfortable beds. We ate in the restaurant and the Grill room and both were excellent. The staff are welcoming and helpful. The food was delicious and a really nice menu to choose from. The breakfast menu is also extensive and tasty. Cannot find fault and heartily recommend the whole experience.

We stayed here during Easter long weekend. The linen was crisp, staff were friendly and the breakfast generous. Oh and Matt makes a silky smooth flat white! We also dinned here on our first night. I had the venison while my wife had the bavette steak. Both were cooked to perfection and we left the 'Grill Room' very satisfied.
The old coaching inn is located in Mells which is a typical English village. The people are very friendly and always have time for a chat. Make sure you explore the surrounding area. We did a round trip and visited Fussells' Iron Works, an 18th century ruin, on the banks of the river Mells.
If you visit during the Easter long weekend, you will experience the Daffodil Festival which attracts upwards of 15,000 visitors so make sure to plan your stay accordingly.

We sat in the grill room which was amazing & great if you have a large family & children with you. The menu had a good selection & was well priced. The food was totally amazing, the meat to the vegetarian options are all delicious & the puddings....good grief! Try the dark chocolate mouse if you can....Head chef Pravin - who worked at the sister pub The Beckford Arms in Fonthill Gifford (which is equally as good) is my favourite chef, his food is fantastic!
Although we didn't stay on this occasion, we were shown round the rooms which were so lovely we will definitely be booking one. Room 1 being my fav. There are also family bedrooms if you have children.
Also, other than the Grill Room & bar/restaurant, there is also the Sitting Room where you can have a private dining experience or sit & chill with a pudding & coffee.
