DoubleTree by Hilton Bristol South - Cadbury House

Decided to break the journey coming from Cornwall to the Midlands.
This hotel answered all the expectations we needed. A warm welcome(including a warm cookie on arrival. Good sized room, Comfy bed and dressing gowns for us both, and nice views. Good food in the Marco Pierre White restaurant, followed by a tasty breakfast. The Leisure facilities were brilliant good sized pool, powerful jacuzzi, sauna and steam room plus a gym (if needed). would recommend this to anyone wanting to break the long journey to the south or for visiting bristol which is almost on the Hotels doorstop. will definitely stay their again.

Room Tip: rooms at the front have decent views

We stayed her for a relaxing weekend back in October 2011, which turned out to be that gloriously hot weekend.
The hotel and the grounds are beautiful.. Check in was quick and efficient, and we were welcomed with a friendly smile and a deicious cookie. The reception area was tastetfully decorated and bright. We reserved a deluxe sofa bed room, which overlooked the front of the hotel with wonderful views, which was much appreciated. The room, again, was well furnished and appointed, with a very comfy bed. We made the most of the evening sun and sat on the terrace with drinks, before dining in the MPW restaurant. We both had a wonderful meal with firendly and professional service. My partner commented that the steak was one of the best he had. Yes it is slightly pricey, but this is not the Beefeater, and you pay for what you get in life.
Two weddings took place the next day, but this did not impede on the standard of service to other guests and we were not affected by any noise. We made use of the spa, where my partner had a wonderful massage and we enjoyed a swim. The spa area was very well maintained and equipped.
Breakfast on both mornings was delicious, we had room service on the first morning which was delivered promtly.
All in all I can not fault this hotel. We have stayed in many Hiltons, and this is on a parr with the best of them. We have booked to return at the end of the month to celebrate my birthday.
I work in the trade and appreciate how hard it is to please everyone. People are only too quick to post any negatives and omit the postives.
We look forward to our return later on this month. Well done to everyone.

We stayed in this hotel again as we do most years on the night after Boxing Day. This year was OK although the rooms are dark and I for one am not a fan of the strange door / window set up in the bathroom. There is little hanging space and it all feels very cramped and gloomy.

Main complaints were the extortinate drink prices in the bar (13.50 for a glass of red wine and a bottle of beer). However by far was the service at breakfast. No tables were ready at 09.45 so we had to wait several minutes whilst the waitress laid up a table for us, she did a very poor job of only partially laying up the table. Breakfast was not explained to us and we had to repeatedly ask for Tea & Coffee and toast. Whist there was a reasonable selection of food available the lack or service really spolit our enjoyment of breakfast.

We have stayed here several times and I have never really warmed to this hotel, I much prefer a Premier Inn over this place any day.

We stayed 2 nights but as the hotel treated them as two separate bookings ( one being their New Year's Eve Ball ) I am doing two separate reviews.
We had booked night of 30/12 as well as New Year's eve so we could try the Marco Pierre restaurant. Dinner reservation had been made for 7.30 p.m confirmed in writing by both myself and the Hotel , they advised a function would be taking place in the restaurant so we would eat elsewhere but menu would be as normal. Came down at 7.20 to find out there was NO "elsewhere " and we would be eating in the restaurant once the fiunction which was still going on was finished, advised that this would be a delay of 10 -15 minutes so sat down in bar/lounge and then gradually froze to death as smokers from the function kept going in and out of the doors to the terrace to have a cigarette, doors usually left wide open. After half an hour asked for update asked to hang on , about 8.05 function came to end and guests came out. Staff then moved in to clean the restaurant and lay out tables . Eventually got in at about 8.20 p.m . Having checked with other diners 2 couples had been given the same time reservation as us but others had been told earliest booking was 8.30.
Fortunately we had at least been given the menus whilst we were freezing in the lounge so starters arrived quickly. However it was disappointing that having ordered wine it was poured straight into our glasses , no tasting, and that was the last time anyone served wine for us , we helped ourselves. Also surprised we had to pay for bread and bowl of olives ( total £5.50)
Food tasty, nicely cooked and well presented :- Calamari and kipper pate for starters , Sirloin steak and calf livers for main , bread/butter pudding for me for dessert, my wife chocolate fondant -sold out so had 2 scoops of icecream as alternative (£5 ). Total cost £37.50 per head.

Turning to room we had 203 . The layout of the hotel is that there are long corridors off the entrance to the stairs , 203 is 2nd room on left therefore everybody on that floor passes your door which is not soundproof . It is also immediately above the terrace where as indicated smokers congregate to have a cigarette- result we went to bed at 11.p.m but we were woken up at 2 a.m by talking below , cigarette finished quiet for ten minutes till another cigarette break required this continued on and off til at 3.30 p.m when a group started singing then I phoned reception singing stopped and final cigarette break was about 4 a.m
Therefore if you have a choice do not have a room with a low number and , in particular , do not have a room with an odd number from 01 - 15 on any floor.
Room OK slightly tired furnishing
Breakfast very good.

Stayed here boxing day night. Check-in was quick and easy, friendly staff and lovely doubletree chocolate cookie. Room was OK, clean, wired internet, plenty of tea and coffee etc. Bar area is fine, with free wifi and quite comfortable to sit and unwind with a drink or coffee - bar needs you to give the paper keycard cover showing your room number if you want to charge anything to your room (never had that before).
Rooms have VERY thin walls - was on 3rd floor nice view overlooking front of hotel - could hear neighbour snoring through it - and also a lot of noise from children running up and down the corridor - not ideal. Room was also very warm in the night even tho I had the heater off.
Stayed here again 28 December - 2nd floor room - same noise from the corridor and they started vacuuming the hallway at 9pm !!
Breakfast was hit and miss - good selection - if you are early enough - the fruit salad bowl was empty when I arrived and I heard another couple ask for it to be refilled, but didnt see this happen in the 10 mins I was there.
There isn't a quick check-out availabe so you have to line up with everyone else trying to check out. Not good if you are in a rush. Parking is free which is good. and reception staff are very friendly and helpful.

We stayed here for my boyfriends 30th birthday, plenty of parking out front, greeted with a smile, cookie and general info. On arrival into the room, there was no ceiling lights in the bedroom just lamps, the desk lamp was not working so was quite dark, along with this fault there was also 1 glass left for the water (we complained and these were both replaced / fixed) we booked the king deluxe sofa room, the bed was far from KING! so i am not sure whether the title meant king meaning the space in the room - which was quite big! but then again quite misleading...

The bathroom had no complaints. Very well lit up and super bath!! Perfect if u bring bubblebath! We then headed down to The Club! We used the gym and the swimming pool! this being FREE made our trip! Also give you complimentary towels! IDEAL!

We then returned to the room, We dined at the Marco Pierre White restaurant which the waiters were very attentive, but the starters were a disappointment, my boyfriend ordered the prawn cocktail for £9.00! He received a cocktail glass of lettuce and 3/4 small /normal sized prawns! disappointing!!! I ordered the Mussel Billy By which again was short of mussels 3/4 at the most! ....The main was nice which we had steak - the chips delicious! Overall a little on the pricey side and the starters need improvements big time!

We then returned to the room, and slept the aircon was a little noisy, but even when we opened the window and aircon turned off automatically there was still this noise!

The bed was SUPER comfy! even if it wasn't a 'king' sized one! The pillows were equally very COMFY!

BREAKFAST WAS FABULOUS! in the Marco Pierre White restaurant - transforms in the morning! - really good buffet choice! Full English, cereals, coffee, tea, juices, bagels, toast, muffins, croissants, bananas, apples ETC ETC!

We received a letter under the door saying we could express checkout which is what we did at 11.30am! perfect!

If you didn't want to eat at this expensive restaurant, on route i saw a pub down the road for 2 for £10! BARGAIN! also i saw a greek restaurant and an indian! didn't explore further than the road we drove past but never the less i find this info interesting when booking a hotel in the middle of no where like this one!!

I was looking forward to visiting the hotel as I had got married at this venue some 21 years ago...boy has it changed and boy is it for the better. My colleagues and I were attending a Christmas Party night (Take That tribute) and decided we would treat ourselves to a night in the hotel. The welcome from reception was perfect - friendly and informative and with the "magic touch" of a warm cookie. Our room was clean and well appointed and the huge shower was pefect for 3 ladies needing to whiz in and out and wash hair etc. We asked for fresh milk for our tea instead of UHT and this was delivered in record time, before the kettle even boiled! Our meal was really nice - not school dinner fayre that we have received elsewhere in the past. Only negative was that our wine was delivered to our table but no one thought to take the cork out!! We asked 3 different waitresses until they were finally opened but we all saw the funny side of it. The entertainment was brilliant and the staff even seemed to be enjoying it which is always nice to see. Breakfast the following day was faultess - really friendly and polite local waitresses who could not do enough for us without being over attentive. We were sent on our merry way by the friendly girls at reception and we left feeling like it was money well spent - would recommend and would return again.

Room Tip: We were at the back of the hotel which is not the best view ( straight into the side of a wooded hil...
