Had Christmas lunch here 2010 and whilst starters and pudding was lovely main course was pretty average. A glass broke in my daughters mouth and apart from asking us to fill in the accident book they showed little concern. Upon returning home we realised they had overcharged us for a bottle of wine - about £25. I phoned them and explained that whilst we should have realised this b4 paying it had just come to light and we were also busy filling in the accident book at the time. I was told the manager wasn't there and would ring me back, but despite ringing on 3 occasions and as many emails not one person had the decency to contact us. All in all, I think they r more interested in profit than customer service. Considering it was Christmas day there was no Christmas atmosphere, the staff didn't even wish anyone a merry Christmas. Expensive (£70) for what it was. Wouldn't go there again.

we rather liked this place, top marks for the refurb on this old pub, old meats new in a very tasteful way. Rooms were very nice, and tastefull decorated, shower was cold and we had to wait over a hour for it to get warm, bit of a pain when you are going out, both me and the wife had a mild bought of food poising the next day, we put it down to the beet sandwich we both had, and this was expensive at 7 pounds, i had breakfast which was ok, staff were helpful and friendly.....

Stayed at the nearby Doubletree by Hilton Cadbury House, and as a big fan, had had a magnificent Chateau Briand, albeit somewhat chastened by the end of the meal poor service, the intense fly invasion and ultimately, the insult of the bill for said experience at the Marco Pierre White steakhouse and Grill at the hotel.

Looking at alternatives, looked up a lovely looking old stylie pub on my way to work and noted it down. Looked it up and we were in!

Gorgeous ambiance, great menu, and exemplary service didnt give credit to what was locally sourced and excellently presented simple foods, cooked to perfection.

Guests in the other (looking at the pics of this places own rooms, inferior accomodations) can take relief at the brilliant food and value to be experienced here.

We will be returning not only for the value and apparent quality of the rooms, but for the food- I am not a dessert person, but even I might make room for 3 courses after my wifes delight at hers!

Thanks for a lovely evening, 29th Sept, early doors. Fantastic
