Bagnell Country Cottage
Reviewed August 26, 2010

My friend and I stayed two nights on what have to be the comfiest beds ever for a B & B. I travelled with a friend. It couldn't be more welcoming. My friend is a vegan and despite a slow start on what that meant, lovely landlady Eileen made sure that vegan breakfast was as requested. The rooms were well accomodated and fit for purpose. Quite a tricky ride to get to the cottage in the dark so be warned - use the diagram shown on the website and always hope that you come at it from the same direction each time you drive there because the west country is notoriousl for have poor and non-existent village/hamlet signposting. Thank you Eileen - we leave with enduring memories.

We stayed here for two nights on a B&B tour, went off to the South Coast for one day and missed the place so much we came back and spent the rest of our holiday here at Bagnell Cottage. If you like to be away from everything and have a hostess who could not do more for you, and be in the middle of some fantastic countryside, and be able to go for walks galore, or drive to some lovely villages just a few miles around. This place was ace in every way and we cannot wait to go back.

We wanted to get away from it all for a few days and couldn't have chosen a better place. Lovely Bagnell cottage is set in beautiful farmland, surrounded by beautiful countryside with walks, views and wildlife... and nearby country pubs!
A great base for exploring and day trips, or simply relaxing.. We were made to feel at right at home.. clean and comfortable accomodation, fab breakfasts and nothing was too much trouble. What more could you ask for :-)

What a wonderful experience to stay in such a fantastic place with such a fantastic lady as Eileen. Nothing is too much trouble for this wonderful lady. The beds are great, the food is fantastic, it's no good staying here if you are thinking of going on a diet, it's all so good, tasty and inviting. The house is truly beautiful and full of character. We can't praise this place enough (as you can probably tell)
We loved taking Eileen to get some new chickens and helping them move into their new home. If you enjoy farmhouse accomodation in the middle of fantastic country seting, surrounded by wild life and within easy reach of many beautiful places.. this is the place for you.

Bagnell cottage is a little off the beaten track a few miles off the A303, but once you find it you will want to go back. The surrounding countryside is wood and farmland and there are many walks which you can take, both easy and hard. We used it as a base to visit local National Trust properties.
The courtesy and service which we received were superb, the rooms are spacious, clean, well appointed. Only the sound of the cock crowing is likely to wake you, it's so quiet there.
We also had a wonderful breakfast, with eggs from Eileen's own chickens, and all this at a very reasonble price.
I can't recommend Bagnell cottage highly enough.

Superb quality - bed, furniture, decor and food. A breakfast to die for with their own free range eggs, home made bread and jams. The only downside is that it is a mile off the beaten track and in wet weather it can be a little slippery. Other than that - brilliant. Best to avoid winter.

We were given a lovely big and clean room with very comfortable beds, a kettle for making tea and coffee and a beautiful big bathroom. The walks around the B&B are beautiful and quiet. Breakfast was lovely and filling and we thoroughly enjoyed our short stay.
