“Cheap eats with a great view”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 22, 2013

Our intention was to have an inexpensive lunch when we visited Orzola. This restaurant commands an impressive position with a view over the picturesque harbour. We chose the menu of the day which is available on weekdays, price 8.60 euros. This gave us the usual bread and mojo as an appetiser, canarian stew, either fish fillet or pork chop, and melon drizzled with honey. Drinks (wine or water) were also included. Although the portion of fish was tiny, who could possibly complain at such an inexpensive meal? The service was friendly and welcoming - there was even a lollipop with the bill!

“Simple rustic charm & food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 4, 2013

I could almost imagine a film location executive short listing this place for a movie - not for it’s glamour but for it’s simple, rustic, charm. If anything it’s a bit run-down looking with the paint on the external walls having taken a beating from the sea breeze but it makes up in other ways.

The setting is on the coastal walkway around the town at the opposite end to the harbour where small ferries sail between mainland Lanzarote and Isla Graciosa. Sitting on the outside terrace you can look out to sea past the little whitewashed buildings. There are also some tables and chairs on the edge of the walkway further along from the restaurant building. Very peaceful.

The young waiter and waitress who served us could not speak much English however their manner was very pleasant and ordering was straightforward (from the English version of the menu!). We both had pan fired fresh filleted white fish, served simply with potatoes and mojo and some salad. It came as it said on the can and was very tasty. So much so that there was no chance for the couple of cats which were prowling around looking for leftovers (the waiters quite often chased them anyway when they became too bold).

Relaxing in the sun, admiring the view and enjoying a glass of house white wine we were persuaded to linger a little longer to taste dessert. The waiter was helpful in trying to explain what was on offer. We just shared the “Bienmesabe” - a local dish with egg base flavoured with almonds, honey and rum - very sweet and sticky - which went down well. The bill did too as it was very reasonable.

We didn’t venture inside or try the toilets (which on the face of it looked fairly basic).

Judging by the favourable comments from fellow diners around us of all nationalities the food was appreciated by the guests - ourselves included. We’ll watch to see if the venue appears in a movie…it’s location on TA will need to be updated as it’s showing at time of writing as south of Barcelona!
