We utterly love Gaya Island and had stayed here before at a different resort. This time we decided to give Gayana Marine Resort a go, and had a great time. The chalets are really cute, and the sound of the water sloshing against rocks at night is really relaxing. There is plenty of wildlife around - macaques and oriental pied hornbills frequented trees right about our chalet (and sometimes even visited our balcony!). The marine life, of course, is spectacular.
Rooms are certainly comfortable. Everything is very pricey though - 27 ringgit for a simple pot of tea with a herbal teabag in it, for example. We did have a bit of a disappointing experience at the restaurant one lunch - we waited over 45 minutes for a pizza that we ordered, but it never came. The server apologised when we followed up, saying he forgot the order - which is fine, of course, however we were then advised that it would be another 30 minute wait (there was only us and one other table filled, so we weren't too sure why it would take so long). We asked if we could have it delivered to our room (I was full of the flu and ready for a rest), and they said there would be a charge for that. We thought it would have been nice if they waived the service charge, or offered a free drink or something as a gesture of goodwill, but they didn't. I just thought the customer service side of things could be handled a bit better.
Wifi is not available in the rooms, but you can get it at the restaurants and bar - however it is not very good.
