We really enjoyed our stay at Gaya island as a break to chill out after some fairly hardcore jungle trekking. The rooms and the resort are very nice, the service is excellent and the food good. Lovely views of the jungle and the water and a nice swimming pool and neat little gym with good machines. A few of the minor things which stopped it being five star were the long walk up an unattractive concrete path to some rooms, limited activities if it's raining - a pool or table tennis table would be good, a few faded/damp patches which is surprising in a hotel this new. Rooms are slightly curiously designed in a long thin shape but very nice with plenty of amenities and a wonderful bed to rest those aching joints post trekking. My understanding is it is certainly one of the best options around kk. Food good but perhaps a touch pricey for borneo. You would have to be pretty harsh to be disappointed with a stay here.

Dear Guest,

I am very sorry to read on your comments of walk up to your room and not having a tennis and/or pool table did effect your experiences with us despite as a whole you enjoyed your stay with us.

I recommend, for your future visits, you ask for rooms on the lower hill as these rooms comes with lesser climb/walk to the villas. Your comments on the pool and tennis table are noted for our future improvements and I thank you very much for sharing your views.

Again, I am very sorry on the areas that did not meet your expectations and I hope these will not deter you to visit us again in future.

Kind regards,
Kirinjit Singh.

On arrival at the resort we had a few problems with our room but the staff were more than accommodating. The manager Angela was particularly brilliant and went out of her way to make the rest of our stay enjoyable. We were given a bottle of champagne free on the first night and a complimentary meal on the second night. The food here was fantastic and we choose three private dining options for three nights of our four night stay. Dinner in the gazebo at the fisherman's cove restaurant was lovely and the view was great. We also enjoyed a private dinner on the beach which was sooo romantic! We were interrupted by a typhoon during desert but this did not dampen the experience at all and the staff even apologized for the weather which was very sweet but of course completely out of their control! On the last night we had the synagag steamboat which was great, LOADs of food which my partner adored-particularly the lobster and tiger prawns. The setting of the hotel is great and we enjoyed a trip to their private beach where we saw turtles in the rehabilitation center. I would also recommend a trip to the main land to see the orangutans at Rasa Ria, this day trip cost about £100. The main part of the cost was the speedboat transfers from the hotel but apparently these are free if you stay more than 5 nights. Overall a great experience and I would go back

What a place! Literally immerse in the jungle on the edge of the ocean with all the rooms overlooking the water. The hotel is brand new (which is of course positive as the rooms are pristine and everyone is so keen to make it a success) and will be even more beautiful in a couple of years when the vegetation has recovered all the structures.
Food is excellent and i recommend the Borneo cuisine cooking classes with chef Vivian: amazing experience.
Generally speaking the level of service was truly outstanding (and we are not easy clients!): we had a lady called Bowie taking care of us like we were family from check in to check out but in general the staff is all very polite efficient and speaks good english.
The spa is beautiful, very scenic and the treatment and very good.
The highlight for us was however Justin the resort Naturalist: we went 3 times with him in the surrounding jungle and we saw all sort of animals and plants but the way Justin introduces people to the jungle sharing all his knowledge and passion is unique: our kids have not stop speaking of him since and they quote him like the highest authority!

When we first arrived we requested a room change due to being close to an air con unit which the staff quickly and helpfully obliged and we received a complimentary bottle of wine for the inconvenience.

We stayed for 5 nights and wish we could have stayed longer. The food was exquisite and the staff went out of there way to make sure we had an exceptional dining experience.

The hotel has a private beech with a separate diner which was absolutely amazing. I have never eaten so well! The bar men and staff were also really helpful and couldn't do enough to make our stay extra special by inventing cocktails and waiting on us hand and foot

The terrain is slightly hilly and so be prepared to walk a bit. This hotel really couldn't done enough for us and We would recommend the sunset cruise and the snorkelling. Would definitely recommend to friends

We were here at the recommendation of the travel agent for a wind-down after a hectic 11 days touring the wildlife areas of Malaysian Borneo. What a treat to find the beach deserted (everyone was by the pool) and getting hot satay on a brick delivered to you with a couple of beers for lunch on the beach really takes the biscuit (we did it three days on the trot!) The Staff were brilliant, involved and interested. I particularly liked the traditional native "party" where lots of the catering and grounds staff joined in with the guests. The snorkling was also brilliant! What more can I say? Loved it
