Review of The Old Victoria

We had an evening meal with friends. The restaurant provided us with a cosy wood fire and delightful winter food. I had the quail and the shepherd's pie, which were both wonderful. It was lovely to taste shepherd's pie made with real lamb and served with mash and peas. The vegetable curries were apparently lovely.

Everything about this establishment has great appeal! The staff, the building, the ambience, the yesteryear factor aanndd the food! We found the service to be great - wonderful, yet not interfering by any means. The staff were professional and courteous. The big hit of the whole experience is the food and its presentation. tied with wonderful original architecture, furniture, and fireplaces that are well used in the cooler months. Our group is very keen to return. We're just trying to find another special occasion to give us an excuse to attend!

Stayed upstairs for a few nights prior and booked an extra night to be able to attend the restaurant.
Wasn’t disappointed.
Three course meal, good wine, all for a reasonable price.
Both my son and I started with the quail in buttermilk, one main was the fillet steak, the other linguine with blue swimmer crab. Finished off with coconut creme and donut bites.
A very enjoyable meal, well prepared and presented.
I stayed on as there was an open mic. session in the bar with some talented musicians and enjoyed a couple of fine single malt scotches.
Well done, will definitely be back.

Our family of 3 adults visited the 'Old Vic' for dinner on a Saturday night.
This exquisitely old colonial restaurant has recently undergone some minor updating of the main bar with boutique beers on tap which is very modern. Some of the internal rooms not open to the public before are now available for dining and allows patrons to experience the once opulent and grand feeling of the spacious cedar lined setting.
The restaurant was not overly busy on this occasion and the table service was much the same.
We ordered garlic bread and scallops for entrée. The scallops were ok but we did not receive the bread. For mains we ordered beef Wellington with a rocket salad.
The beef was cooked medium well as requested but was a little gristly.
Overall our dining experience enabled us to imagine what life must have been like in a more relaxed era. We must visit again in another time.
