We stayed two nights and wished we could have stayed longer.
Having lived in the area for a dozen years, the kind and courteous hosts are very knowledgeable of the best to experience in the area: Albi, Cahor, Figeac , Sarlat, etc. Originally a nobleman’s hunting lodge, the mas is an expanded and fully restored version of a great farm house. It’s very quiet, surrounded by wheat fields and four other farm houses down the road. It has expansive views. One can take a short walk to the Lot River. The pool and lack of direct neighbors, makes it feel like a small resort in the countryside. The bedrooms and bathrooms are spacious and well appointed. Ours had a full bath, separate shower and separate toilet along with two vanities. There are lots of nice touches, such as, water in a bottle and two glasses in the room, nice antique furniture, thick drapes, blackout windows and travel books and brochures. Breakfast is classic with ample coffee. A four course dinner can be arranged. The first night we joined impromptu for dinner the hosts and a Parisian couple looking to buy a vacation home in the area and who couldn’t go out that night. A rare and lucky occurrence, we had a great evening eating, drinking and discussing our travels and working experiences abroad. The next night we drove the short distance to the “must-see” idyllic, but touristy, hill town of Circ de Lapopie. I wish we had joined back up with the French couple who went even closer to an elegant restaurant in the neighboring town of Carjac. C’est la vie!
