“MANY HAPPY RETURNS”
Reviewed July 4, 2017 for a stay in June 2017

The titlw says it all. This has been our 17th consecutive annual holiday in the Retreat and we have enjoyed them all with Phil being the perfect host.
The cottage is comfortable with everything laid on, the location is secluded but not isolated. And so peaceful - no aircraft or traffic noise (even the geese are quiet).

We have already booked for next year.

“Summer Holiday 2016”

We had a great time at The Retreat.

On Arrival at the Bungalow, we found The Retreat a very cosy, clean, spacious, well kept property. There’s plenty of seating at the Dining Table and a comfortable Lounge area as well. The Main bedroom was very well kept and I found the Bed very comfortable.
There’s also plenty of storage for all your belongings. Having two Bathrooms and a Washing Machine / outdoor Rotary Line was really useful as well. The Bungalow has all the amenities you require in your own home.

A welcome gift on arrival was much appreciated and unexpected. We spoke to Phil on Arrival and found him very accommodating and helpful, many thanks for making us feel welcome.

As we hoped, the property was really quiet, well away from the road, we didn’t have any disturbances during our visit. The rear of the property is enclosed by a Wood and a small Meadow with Geese. We love animals, so for us the resident Geese in the enclosed Meadow next to the property were an added bonus.

The furniture on the outdoor decking was really useful, we spent most nights on the Decking chatting and enjoying the Scenary, as it was pretty hot inside during mid summer evenings. In the late afternoons, the Wood also gave us a bit of shade from the scorching sun as well.

One night, we tried the Two Sawyers pub/restaurant over the road, the staff were very friendly and accommodating. We had a main meal and dessert, which were of very high quality. The food was served pretty fast as well, so I give it 8 out of 10.

Also, at the end of the Pett road on the A259 junction is a Beefeater Restaurant, which we made use off, this was also good quality, but service time was a bit longer, as it was a really busy Restaurant.

For shopping, the closest retail store we found was Aldi, about 5-10 minutes away on the A259, heading into Hasting’s.

I plan ahead, so I had an agenda of places to visit, i.e. Castles and Gardens etc,
all within ½ to 1 hours’ drive from Pett. There’s plenty in East Sussex to keep you busy for the entire week.

To sum up, we had a lovely Holiday and would recommend the Bungalow to anybody want a relaxing holiday.

“A lovely place for a quiet getaway”
Reviewed February 28, 2016 for a stay in February 2016

We had a very warm welcome from the owner to this lovely converted barn. It was warm, comfortable with every possible amenity. Unfortunately the wi-fi was not reliable so not suitable if you depend on it. We felt immediately at home and loved the geese wandering around in the morning (not too early!). There is a lovely outside space and a trampoline for children. The nearest town is Rye, ancient and interesting. Wouldn't bother with Hastings. We had a good day out at Bodium Castle. There is lots of local information provided in the property so plenty to choose from. We loved it.

Thank you for your very positive review. I would welcome any suggestions to improve the Wi-Fi reliability. We have installed a range extender which has helped but not completely solved the problem. It seems that increasing the speed doesn't increase the strength.

“Perfect cottage to explore 1066 country”

We stayed for a week in May 2015 with our 2 year old son and had an excellent holiday. the 2 bedroom cottage is set in a very tranquil village, but has good transport links which enables you to visit many nearby attractions. Everything we needed was provided, including cot, child's booster seat, dishwasher, washing machine, lots of books, a well organised folder containing leaflets about the local area, and an enclosed trampoline (which our son loved!). the owners (who live in the big house nearby) were extremely helpful without been overbearing. perhaps our favourite part was the outdoor wooden decking area (which was completely enclosed) with a beautiful countryside view. Booking, directions, and arrangements were very well organised. We would highly recommend to stay here.

“The best holiday cottage ever”

We arrived to a reallly warm welcome by Phil, with tea/coffee/milk/wine, some cakes and a newspaper provided.
The gardens were lovely, and the place really rural and quiet - except for the 13 geese which I loved to feed with vegetable peelings once they were released during the day.
A very useful place to start to explore E Sussex & Kent.
Note that the drive is quite steep so parking could be a problem for less able drivers.
Phil was very helpful when our car had problems and soon recommended a local.garage which he rang and so they were expecting us.
Nothing lacking in the cottage, and nothing too much trouble. Everything clean and comfortable, with plenty of heating if required. We particularly liked having 2 shower/bathrooms and 2 bedrooms.
Wi-fi is available, though not particularly fast, but worked OK when we used a laptop next to the signal booster.

“5* Holiday at a 5* property”
Reviewed January 28, 2014 for a stay in December 2013

This was one of the best weeks we have had. We went for Christmas in 2013 and had such a lovely time. The property itself is situated behind the main house were the landlord lives so it is nice a quiet away from the road traffic (not that there is much)

We went with our 2 children, our 4 year old boy and 6 month old son, they both really enjoyed it. Our eldest liked looking at the geese which are in the field next to the property.

The property has everything you will need with the main bedroom having an on-suit bathroom as well as the shower room. The kitchen is small, but we were able to do 2 full Christmas roast's without much trouble, so it isn't as small as it may seem.

there are 2 pubs fairly close, the two sawyers is the closest situated literally meters away so a nice short walk if it’s raining or cold. we went here once to grab a sandwich and have a drink before some Christmas films were on, but unfortunately was rudely met by a waitress, who didn't seem to want our custom so we decided to try another pub (the royal oak) down the road, we were welcomed here with open arms and went back another 2 times as they were very nice to our children and us. The food here was really nice although we only had sandwiches and chips.

The drive into Pett was quiet daunting as it took us through all the lanes after we had a really bad week of rain so it was very watery but it was worth it.

while we were there on Christmas eve there was a power-cut that lasted the whole day, the landlord was nice enough to keep coming and checking on us and even offered for us to come into his property for shower and to keep warm with his fire he had going. This was extremely nice of him and will nether forget the hospitality he offered throughout the visit.

I would recommend this property to anyone you will be treated brilliantly by the landlord and also have lots of fun while you are there.
