we loved it! we didnt know what to expect after reading the reviews, but were more than happy with what we found. our studio room was larger than most studios we have stayed in, table and 4 chairs, bed, fould out couch plus 2 other chairs with a coffee table all fit in with plenty of room too spare, plus the table and chairs in the private courtyard ment we had more than enough seating. the bed was comfy, spa bath was excelent! the location couldnt be better, once you park you dont need your car again as its so close to everything. our package included free cooked breakfast (yum!) plus when we asked about a late checkout we were told we could stay till 11 at no extra cost. we will definatly be going back

We recently had a four day holiday at the Calais to celebrate my husband's 65th birthday. I selected this resort because of it proximity to the beach and its Qualmark four and a half star luxury rating in the Jasons book, as a luxury resort. We were more than highly disappointed with what we found. The presentation of the room was far from the star rating that it had been given. The furniture is little more than kitset style, and all of the bed linen was wrinkled and unpressed and the wrong size for the bed. In short the quality is not befitting a resort.
We were annoyed also by the toilet cistern filling all night. The fridge did not keep food cold. The outdoor patio in need of a spruce up for a luxury resort, which we consider, it definately is not.
I run a Bed and Breakfast and would certainly never present a Guests room like the one we had.

We paid $195 pn for a 1 bedroom plus a pull out couch for the kids. On arrival we thought it was very dark inside (see pix) and small. The main bedroom is odd as it has a gap that allows noise to travel up into the bedroom so when ever a car starts up you can hear everything (one morning we were blasted by a car radio)
The up side...the location is perfect you even get free tickets to the hot pools across the road but you do have to ask for these (worth around $30)
Would I go here again with the kids...No. Would I come here without the kids possibly yes.

Had a great time at the Calais when we stayed there in November. Were a bit concerned over some negative reviews in this website but some were about building work that has finished.

The staf were great and helpful and the rooms were fab. 6 of us (2 adults, 3 kids, 1 baby) were very comfortable. Great balcony for our room but it was a bit cold to use.

The only negative was that for the size of my family (large for these days), there wasn't a really large saucepan but the staff sorted us out with a second. Next time we'll bring one with us.

Location is fantastic - we could run across the road to the pool in the evning so no sorting kids into the car and there's roughly the same distance to either the calm Pilot Bay or Surf beaches. There's also a great kids playground not far, back toward the town - again, in walking distance.

For the location, we think the price is reasonable and it was so good, we're staying there again shorty and taking UK family with us too.

Specifically asked for a 3 bedroom apartment, got a 2 bedroom with a pull out sofa in a small unclosable conversatory. When we spoke to reception about it, they didn't really care and did nothing to see it right. There were no mirrors in the bedroom, only one in the bathroom. The lighting was terrible, we were unable to even read the paper, it was so dim. We were told we would get passes to the hot pools, but again we had to ask for them like everything else. We were also charged $60 for borrowing towels for the pools. Which of course we didn't pay. This was definately NOT 4 star luxuary accommodation. Not sure how they got that rating. We then were charged more then what we got quoted. Again we didn't pay. I wouldn't recommend staying here.
