“Personal Care with a Smile; Good Prices for Capitol Reef Area”
Reviewed June 4, 2012

Torrey, Utah, is to the west of Capitol Reef National Park. Many people visiting the park will stay at one of the many motels in Torrey. But if those places are full, this place on the east side of the Park is a great alternative. It is nearly as close to the Park action as from Torrey. And it is much closer to Goblin Valley State Park, an incredible place for kids to play among the hoodoos. This place is at mile marker 98.5 on highway 24 between Torrey and Hanksville. I agree with the folks who say that hot Hanksville (farther to the east on 24) is not an attractive place to stay. (Stan's Burger Barn is a fun place to eat, though, in Hanksville).

This place is in the small, sleepy, spread-out farming/ranching community of Caineville. It is now being managed by a very friendly and helpful family of 7 who live on the property and are taking great care of it. My initial reaction: plain, sparse, very clean. Good satellite TV coverage. Grandkids loved the pool. Complimentary breakfast is OK but nothing special. Very interesting topography -- like nothing you have seen before.

It's the only hotel for miles, forget Hanksville, those places are dumps. This Rodeway is very small, maybe 20 rooms. I thought it was brand-new and was surprised to learn it is 15 yeras old. Very very clean, everything worked well. I never heard noise from adjoining rooms, or traffic noise from the nearby highway. The owners were very friendly. There is no cell service in this area because it's so remote. The wireless worked well (look for the Rodeway Inn access point, there's another called "beehive something" that doesn't work.) However, they say it's not available in all the rooms. Good value for the money given the location.

If you have 4wd make sure to see Cathedral Valley, it is really spectacular. If you are experienced at back-country driving, you can make a 60-mile loop of it, starting about 8 miles west of the hotel and returning to the highway about 1 mile west of the hotel. You have to ford a stream at the beginning, which is at least a foot deep, then you climb up a sometimes rough road into the forest. Eventually you hav an amazing view as you drop down into the valley, giant spires all around. If you are going to do the loop, do it in this direction. If you aren't as adventurous, take the east road. After you do the short turnoff to see the Temple of the Sun and Moon, keep going for a few miles to see more great scenery until you get to the climb, then return the way you came in.

A friend & i enjoyed our stay very much. The new manger of about 6 month has and is doing a great job the running this motel. I have been in the hospitality business for over 30 years. This manger is trying real hard to turn this motel around, from what it was in the past. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: Be sure to eat lunch or dinner before arriving. The view out of your window is worth not have a rest...

Very nice stay near Capitol Reef N.P. The hotel has very friendly owners. The room was large and very clean, and the continental breakfast makes a good start into the day. We were satisfied and would stay again.

If you looking for a place to stay that clean, quiet and only 15 mins from Hanksville pick the Rodeway Inn. The hotel has a contrinent breakfast and the other great thing about the Rodeway inn is they are very pet friendly which is a plus to me when I have two dogs that go every where with me..

The owner was extremely nice and Gracious, the hotel was quiet and clean, A good experience! Keep in mind, the hotel is 30 miles from the nearest restaurant, so bring food, or eat prior. A continetal breakfast is served, and was good. The location is good for capital reef adventures, we got an early start, and where only 10 minutes to the park.

We stayed here for two days and it was very nice. The young manager was so nice and very helpful. He wanted to make sure we were very comfortable. The room was nice and clean and very comfortable. You can almost drive right by the motel, as Cainville is the "motel" and that's about all.
