If you want to walk the Dales Highway in 4 days this is a great spot for the first night, albeit not a cheap stop at a minimum £150 b and b. midweek. The welcome/service was very good and the food in the bar excellent. Our room in the adjacent house which had been converted to 4 rooms was excellent, and being slightly away from the main building was very quiet. Only area I thought that was slightly below expectation was the breakfast where choice was limited if you didnt want the full cooked, and having to wait for somebody to bring juice rather than the normal help yourself meant an unnecessary wait.

We had a lovely relaxed meal in the Brassiere Bar with great people and in a stunning location. The staff are all very friendly (although this is not a surprise in Yorkshire as it's been the same everywhere during our mini-tour of the North. The mains took a little while to come out, but well worth the wait as everything was cooked to perfection. Don't miss the Roast Norfolk Quail and the justly famous Sticky Toffee Pudding! We stayed in the White Doe Suite just opposite the main hotel and it was wonderfully quiet, very well presented and immaculately clean. All followed by a proper Yorkshire Full English! Highly recommended.

Room Tip: The White Doe Suite and the other rooms across from the main hotel have lovely views of the fells at the back.

My husband and I stayed for two nights in May at the Angel Inn in the Sycamore suite, dining once in the restaurant and twice (one lunch, one dinner) in the bar.

What we liked:

- Our room was spacious, light and airy with a lovely view, especially from the door to a little terrace with chairs/table. The bathroom was large, modern and luxurious with a big wet-room style shower and free-standing bath.

- Excellent food in both the bar and restaurant. The black pudding salad (trust me) is one of the best dishes we had during our foodie holiday week. Breakfast equally good.

- Free WiFi in the room.

- Canapes delivered to the room around 6:15pm each evening.

What we felt could be improved:

- The TV signal in the room is very poor, with most channels unwatchable. TVs don’t have HDMI port to connect devices.

- Service in the restaurant is professional and friendly but could be improved in some areas, e.g. glasses and bottles left piling up on the table rather than removing during the meal, wine/water top-ups are non-existent (fine in the bar but fair to expect in the restaurant).

The attention to detail at the Angel is second to none. Everything in the room has been thoughtfully considered. Real ales very good. Food delicious and plenty of it. Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast enjoyable. Beautiful village and good range of walks from the accommodation. We will be back.

Lovely stay at the Angel. Nicely-appointed room (Garden Room) with every amenity. Soft, comfy bed, lovely bathroom with fluffy white towels and toiletries. Really peaceful village with lovely walks from the door in the beautiful Dales.

Food was excellent. We had dinner in the restaurant (Bar-Brasserie Menu on Sunday evenings) and it was perfect. Simone, our waiter, was friendly and helpful. Fantastic full Yorkshire breakfast this morning set us up for the day.

I would highly recommend The Angel for both food and accommodation.
