I enjoyed an overnight stay here earlier this month. The plus points were the food, beer and friendliness. The negatives were the decor (tired and a bit naff), plumbing (1970's standard) and service. Friends who had stayed the previous evening had to prompt the staff to service their rooms (it was early in the evening). This was then done quickly and a bottle of wine placed on our table at dinner time, by way of an apology. The food, both at dinner and breakfast, was good hearty fair and there was a range of good beers.

I've just returned home from a very enjoyable two nights at the Boars Head Inn. What struck me most was how friendly all the staff were and how they made you feel very welcome and at home. On Friday night we took part in the quiz which was laid on purely as a bit of fun and at no cost to participants. The rooms were comfortable and a good nights sleep was had. The following evening we ate in the restaurant and were really impressed with the menu and the end product. Breakfasts were also of high quality and I would have no hesitation in recommending the Inn for its food alone, even if you haven't got time to stay.

My wife and I ate at a table in the bar area on a mid Friday afternoon. There had been a bad accident on the road between Skipton and the Lake District so rather than sit in the queue we decided to stop off and try the food.

We were a bit concerned when first arrived – the pub looked ok but a bit tired and there was also hardly anyone else there (although as stated it was mid afternoon).

However we got a warm friendly welcome and there was plenty of appealing choices on the extensive menu. They also took quite a few phone call bookings whilst we were there which is often a good sign.

We ordered and the food arrived quickly / was a good portion size. My wife had the Lamb Tagine and said it was one of the best she’d ever had – very tasty and absolutely no fat at all. I had the beef and ale pie, which was also excellent – really nice pasty / meat and you could really taste the ale in the gravy.

We shared an apple and rhubarb crumble for pudding – again excellent with lots of crème anglaise (custard).

So if you want a good solid traditional pub meal with real home made food you can’t go far wrong, we’d definitely eat there again. Overall we paid about £30 for two main courses, one pudding and a drink each – so good value for money too.

Finally got round to writing this!! Was met by a warm greeting from Vicki, who made us feel very welcome on our first visit to this highly recommended establishment.

My husband and I ate in the restaurent, the food was stunning, hot, served in a lovely ambient surroundings with first class service.

As a blast rom the past I decided to have the prawns for starter - and oh boy served as I always remembered from years ago and the best I have had for a long long time, my husband opted for the black pudding which was served on a triangular plate and was almost main course size.

Main courses were fab, he had gammon which was HUGE and I had steak.

We were too full for desserts, but am so glad I opted for the starter for a change.

Two courses each and a round of drinks and the bill was £40.

We will definately return, as made to feel so welcome - Vicki certainly added some va va voom to our visit - well done the Boars Head!

Had to be in Skipton for business, booked into Boars head hotel. Derek one of landlords very helpful on phone and offered excellent rate, didn't need breakfast so kindly reduced rate. Hotel. Seems popular with locals, building looks slightly tired but friendly. Room 3 was family room just for me. Comfy bed and excellent facilities. Room next to road but ear plugs provided just incase,
Food and beer was excellent , try the steak pie. Would stay again.

Having lived in hellifield for many years, we have visited the boars head a few times. Went this evening for a meal. We were met with lovely bar staff who were courteous and polite, we chose to eat near the bar, I opted for the chilli and mark opted for the turkey pie. Both were served piping hot and tasted lovely, we thoroughly enjoyed them. Lovely home made food, makes a change for normal pub chain food. The staff were lovely. Would recommend, yes it's not a corporate modern pub, but its a country pub, which these days are hard to find. Enjoyed it after a lovely day out.
