This review is based on a nights stay (booked at short notice the evening previously).
We were up in Yorkshire near Bolton Abbey to get our dog mated with a suitable partner and had booked the Boars Head Hotel the night previously having researched places to stay locally via the internet. There was a room for £49 on the net and when we phoned to book they quoted £75... but then happily agreed to the special offer found on the net, we let them know that we would arrive late on in the evening and may require food and they informed us that the restaurant would serve till late with last orders at 9pm.
We were running roughly on schedule but phoned ahead at 8.15 as we were still at least 30 mins away in Bolton Abbey, they informed us of the best route to take and assured us they would serve us on arrival. We arrived at about 8.45 and were greeted warmly and we decided to eat first then book in... We only wanted a main meal so we both ordered the Fish Chips and mushy peas which i think was £10.50 on the menu... we also ordered a couple of G&T's and relaxed at the table we had been shown to. The food arrived and what was served was awesome... a beautiful plaice with a bowl of mushy peas and a small bowl of Tartare Sauce and then a large platter of home made chips to accompany it. The fish was quite the largest I have ever been served being at least 12" long and 4" wide... It was plain from the taste that the fish was very fresh and just melted in the mouth, outstanding food.
We skipped desert and went to book in to our room. We were shown to a double room on the first floor which was dated but very clean and comfortable, apparently this was the only room still to be refurbished, however, it served it's purpose and apart from the antiquated shower head off the bath taps arrangement it was fine. We went back down for drinks and on chatting with the owner who was serving at the bar, he told us to bring our dog into the bar area as they were a dog friendly establishment (we have a comfortable cage in the car for the dog who often accompanies us on trips). We enjoyed a lovely couple of hours having a drink and chatting to a few of the locals.
Breakfast the next morning was also excellent 'Full English' well cooked and presented and very tasty. All in all an excellent choice of place to stay and one which I would heartily recommend to all without any hesitation
