“Excellent Accommodation, Food and hospitality”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 13, 2013

This review is based on a nights stay (booked at short notice the evening previously).
We were up in Yorkshire near Bolton Abbey to get our dog mated with a suitable partner and had booked the Boars Head Hotel the night previously having researched places to stay locally via the internet. There was a room for £49 on the net and when we phoned to book they quoted £75... but then happily agreed to the special offer found on the net, we let them know that we would arrive late on in the evening and may require food and they informed us that the restaurant would serve till late with last orders at 9pm.

We were running roughly on schedule but phoned ahead at 8.15 as we were still at least 30 mins away in Bolton Abbey, they informed us of the best route to take and assured us they would serve us on arrival. We arrived at about 8.45 and were greeted warmly and we decided to eat first then book in... We only wanted a main meal so we both ordered the Fish Chips and mushy peas which i think was £10.50 on the menu... we also ordered a couple of G&T's and relaxed at the table we had been shown to. The food arrived and what was served was awesome... a beautiful plaice with a bowl of mushy peas and a small bowl of Tartare Sauce and then a large platter of home made chips to accompany it. The fish was quite the largest I have ever been served being at least 12" long and 4" wide... It was plain from the taste that the fish was very fresh and just melted in the mouth, outstanding food.

We skipped desert and went to book in to our room. We were shown to a double room on the first floor which was dated but very clean and comfortable, apparently this was the only room still to be refurbished, however, it served it's purpose and apart from the antiquated shower head off the bath taps arrangement it was fine. We went back down for drinks and on chatting with the owner who was serving at the bar, he told us to bring our dog into the bar area as they were a dog friendly establishment (we have a comfortable cage in the car for the dog who often accompanies us on trips). We enjoyed a lovely couple of hours having a drink and chatting to a few of the locals.

Breakfast the next morning was also excellent 'Full English' well cooked and presented and very tasty. All in all an excellent choice of place to stay and one which I would heartily recommend to all without any hesitation

“Good food and service.”

Stopped for lunch with no previous knowledge and pleasantly surprised. It looked a bit dark and old-fashioned but we were greeted and served with real friendliness. The lunchtime gammon (half the price of the evening gammon) was large and succulent, good chips and tasty coffee. Great value and highly recommended.

“Excellent”

The day after our wedding 40 of us arrived at The Boars Head for Sunday lunch after a long walk. The management and staff were very efficient in looking after us all in a calm and professional manner. Our food order was taken and our tasty meals presented to us very soon. I am still impressed at how well such a large party was catered for, with nothing being too much trouble for our party. A wide range of vegetarian and gluten free options are available, as well as a very enjoyable roast dinner. A lovely pub, very well run, offering lovely food. Highly recommended. Thank you to the Boars Head, for helping us to have a lovely day.

“Best place we have eaten in ages, well worth a visit!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2013

What wonderfully welcoming staff!

Although a little dark (mood lighting) this lovely pub in the sleepy village of Long Preston was a real surprise to us. We were driving back from Cumbria and looking for somewhere to feed the children.

A traditional pub covered in flowers, with an extensive menu of delicious meals; we all found choosing difficult. The children's menu had a good range but not too over the top, and the meal deal made them quite good value with a drink and ice cream included.

In the end we went for: Steak and Ribs, Salmon and rice and Steak and Chicken. The children both got chicken goujons. All of which was so good we couldn't help but share so we could taste everything. The home-made chips alone were worth the visit, reminding me of my mothers cooking!

We loved it so much we couldn't help but have desert - sticky toffee pudding with a sauce to die for and a baileys cheese cake. Everything was home-made and delightful.

The service was reasonably quick and very polite, including the children in their conversations with us and patiently letting them order their own food.

I would highly recommend a visit.

“Excellent Pub”

Just had Cumberland sausage, mash & veg in The Boars Head. Delicious. The pub is delightful - extensive menu, friendly staff, quiet, olde worlde look with comfy seating. Would love to have this as my local.
