“Southwest BBQ with a twist”
Reviewed January 3, 2013

It was not the traditional Filipino BBQ we thought we were getting. Instead, a surprisingly refreshing Southwest American menu in a modern setting. Though of a Southwestern style, there were no cowboy hats or wild west kitschy decor. Instead the restaurant was simply done in dark woods, modern comfortable sitting arrangements with outdoor seating too.
Our group ordered a variety of dishes ranging from: 1/2 rack of baby back ribs with sweet potato fries, mac and cheese, hamburger, buffalo wings and bone marrow/ beef tacos. We loved the usual and very tasty marrow/beef tacos. Amazing and different. The kids found the mac and cheese lacking bland. But the rest of the dishes we were quite happy with. Some drinks were served in jam jars. Desserts were similarly served in jam jars. The wait staff were very attentive and efficient. We would come back, in a heartbeat!

“Bring a good appetite!”
Reviewed December 22, 2012

With no fixed idea in mind about what we wanted to eat, we were tempted by the menu board out the front of this aptly named barbeCUE restaurant. We were first customers to arrive at a little before noon and the music, whilst being played a bit loudly, was nice jazz and blues style. We asked for it to be turned down a little and this was done straight away, with a smile. Glad we arrived early (with no reservation) as there were only a couple of free tables half an hour later! We munched on the complimentary spicy popcorn while pondering our choices - the ribs, wings, salads, soups and sandwiches all sounded mouth-watering, as did the home-cured slab bacon (baked then fried - a cholesterol feast!!) When my dining companion and I shared our thoughts, we were both trying to choose between the same two items: the BLT and the pulled pork sandwich. Solution: we ordered one of each! The staff happily cut each one in half and provided extra plates. The sandwiches were both served on a wooden trencher with a generous side of kamote (sweet potato) fries, which were delicious. The pulled pork was tender and tasty, topped with BBQ sauce, stuffed into a burger bun and accompanied by mayonnaise and onions. The BLT was enormous! Two thick slabs of toasted sour dough bread were packed generously with crisp bacon, roast pork loin, tomato, lettuce and avocado. As well as the fries, there were two fried eggs, which we inserted into our sandwiches to make a tidiness-defying challenge! Not sure if two eggs is the norm or if this was a kind gesture since we were sharing. In any event, we found the service to be good and friendly, the food tasty and the value good also. We plan to go back to work through some of the other taste-tempting treats on offer, including that bacon!

“A good place to sample the Beef Belly.”
Reviewed December 1, 2012

First time for us to come to this place. There were 9 of us. Three ladies. Looking at the menu, you would be attracted to their feature The Baby Back Ribs. I was attracted to the Beef Belly. One of us ordered the Baby Back Ribs; I ordered the Beef Belly. True enough, my instincts proved me right. Although the Baby Back Ribs were o.k. for the average person, it was really lacking in salt and some spices. It was sweet. However, the Beef Belly was quite nice with it's mustard cream topping and the juices. There was quite a lot of (the good) fat which made it tasty. Contrary to popular belief, we need fat in our body. It is better to process fat than carbohydrates which instantly turn to sugar and cause diabetism symptoms. At any rate the beef was really good. You just need to make reservations because, like when we came, a Saturday night is jampacked. I have no idea yet during the other days. Btw, the pork chop (huge serving) was also a bit dry and lacking in salt.
