“And the sun shone too !!”
Reviewed April 16, 2013 via mobile

Had a great meal with the family on Sunday , the food was perfect and large portions, we were advised that the food would take a while as they were busy due to the sun coming out so be prepared for wait, at least we were advised of this before taking our order.

“What a find”
Reviewed April 14, 2013

A few weekends ago I came across the Essex Food and Drink guide in a pub just outside of Bishop Stortford. Having thought I had been to all the good pubs within a half hour radius of my house I was glad when I came across The Old Windmill in this publication. We were not disappointed the staff are friendly, the beer is good and the food is wonderful. The servings are generous so aim to have two courses, as I was disappointed to miss out on the desserts due to having a starter.

“Great pub food”
Reviewed April 11, 2013

Lovely pub, and the food was fabulous - really tasty. The soup was the best I've had in a long while, with a delicious chunk of bread to go with it. There are lighter choices as well as bigger meals for the main courses, and the desserts and coffees that we ordered all came with a shortbread biscuit that may have been homemade (it tasted that good in any case!). One of our party had the cheese and biscuits and couldn't finish it as it was so huge. The staff were all very pleasant, and the price was on a par for this type of pub/restaurant.

One small criticism: the choice for vegetarians was a bit limited. If they could come up with a few more veggie dishes, it would be perfect.

“WHY cannot all pubs be like this!”
Reviewed April 6, 2013

Delicious food that is seasonal and changes very regularly, and dog friendly! Our immaculately behaved pomeranian hates being left outside whilst we eat inside and I have to agree. Doggie friendly pubs tend to be more friendly and welcoming in any case, I have found, even if you do not bring your own four-legged friend. The staff are really friendly, the food is excellent. Mr CAMRA (aka the Husband) also rates the beer as excellent. The only down-side? We have to travel miles to get there! Please keep doing what you do.

“Decent food and good beer in a vast pub, noisy”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

Good spot for a pub lunch with decent pub food (generous portions, fresh cooked) and a choice of real ales. Only downside for me (and stopping 5 stars) is the number of young children running around the bar area and the resultant noise. Diners next to us had a child of about 6 who had a noisy robot type toy -- unwrapped in the pub and demonstated to him by an adult!
