Owner description: Sydney's favorite boutique music venue, and home for World Music in Australia, as well as presenting the best singer/songwriters, jazz, folk, blues, cabaret etc from Australia and beyond. With The Django Bar downstairs & Camelot upstairs, amazing and eclectic collections of objects and art co-exist with incredible music, in a truly unique, fun atmosphere! And...delicious, affordable, unpretentious food and drinks served to complete the experience. All ages welcome (under 18's must be supervised by adult).

“Great quirky venue let down by staff talking over live act”
Reviewed January 11, 2014 via mobile

This is a great spot for live music - quirky and well set up, with a reasonable selection of wines, beers and cocktails. The acoustics are pretty good. There is a small but sufficient menu, mainly pizza on a lebanese bread base. The trio of dips was lovely.

The thing that let the Camelot Lounge down for me was the fact that the staff were talking amongst themselves / with a friend at the bar and were talking over the top of the live act that we went to see. Huge disappointment in a live music venue

Thank you so much for your review and important feedback.
As far as talkative staff during a quiet show, I couldn't agree with you more - this is absolutely unacceptable, and I hope an aberration! We strive on all fronts to create an atmosphere of utmost respect for our artists - and indeed for our attentive audience - so it is very disturbing to think that on this occasion, the bar-people fell short of this. We have mentioned your review to all our staff, so this incident is not repeated.
Thank you again for writing, and for supporting live music in Sydney, and happy new year!

“where else to go for great music in downtown Marrickville”
Reviewed November 20, 2013

I have been going to Camelot for some years it seems (from its earlier firetrap years). 3 gigs in the next week says it all, with new Jewish music, qawwali & classic albums recreation giving you some idea of the breadth of the repertoire "curated" by Yaron from M. Camembert. They do all the quirky stuff that you would otherwise not hear of. It's a small and cozy venue and has a weird sort of quadrophonic everywhere sound mix which just seems to work. Don Walker chose to play there on a very sparse tour schedule recently. Reasonable drink prices and now the groovy Django hangout bar downstairs make this the semi-secret venue that once discovered will become a regular.

“Such a cool place!”
Reviewed October 13, 2013

Discovered this venue last night and loved it so much. This is a venue where people of all ages can go and have a drink and listen to a variety of live music. The owner loves camels and the whole place is decorated with camel ornaments and paintings, there are even flying camels hanging from the ceiling. The vibe of the place is quirky, playful, fun and a little bit alternative. We had some thin crust pizzas and a mezze plate to eat, which we really enjoyed. The room is not too large so you sit up close to the musicians and if you want to get up and dance you can.

So glad there is a place in Sydney for us slightly older folk (and for the younger ones) that is groovy, cool, funky and fun and not expensive.

“It's time to dancy dance!”
Reviewed August 15, 2013

I love Camelot. I'm a regular. The crew who organise this venue have excellent taste in music. All the best musicians from all around Australia who would normally get lumped into simplifying categories like world music will do a gig here sometime in the year. You'll occasionally get some amazing international touring act too like Boubacar Traoré from Mali who played one of the most beautiful nights in living memory.

To top it off, the food is great (catering for everyone vegan + GF options) and the booze is not expensive. Good recipe for a great night.

Found this venue by accident last week....decided to check out the Django Bar and Camelot Lounge for a friday after work drink. Coincidentally it was the day before 'sold out' Lior was playing and we were lucky enough to find someone trying to sell their tickets at the door. We ended up having the best impromptu night and got to see Lior play live in a very retro and intimate venue. Django Bar, very Art Deco, and very cool music, management and staff were really friendly. Fun factor is AAAAA rated and we will definitely be back soon. Sarah & David.
