Description: The George is an award-winning, traditional, dog-friendly, family-owned and operated 17th-century village pub. We serve fresh food prepared from local ingredients, including local meat, game and foraged foods. We grow our own veg, herbs and fruit and make our own ice creams as well! We are renowned for cooking fresh fish and seafood from the south coast -- some say our scallops are so good they are "to die for." And our locally reared meat is mouth-wateringly good. We have two craft beers produced exclusively for us, three other guest ales and eight local ciders. With a lovely beer garden for the summer and a log fire in the winter, families and dog-walkers are always welcome. We have four en-suite bedrooms for b&b and a multi-purpose self-contained function room and skittles alley. But most of all there is "... ALWAYS A FRIENDLY WELCOME."

“A proper pub, a proper publican, proper ales and proper fish pie”
Reviewed December 7, 2011

Good choice on the menu, we plumped for the 'Specials' and they really were. The best fish pie that I've had anywhere and a beef bourguignon that rivals those we've had in France. The chefs clearly take great care and pride in the sourcing, preparation and presentation of their dishes. Peter, the landlord and 'front of house' is both welcoming and attentive. There is a lovely warm atmosphere as soon as you walk in and it's not just from the open fires. Parking is tricky with just a few parking spaces outside but don't let this put you off; persevere and be rewarded.

“Great Pub”
Reviewed November 7, 2011

We were staying at a Hotel nearby and fancied a relaxed pub meal one night. Looked up places to eat on tripadviser and this seemed a good pick. Very friendly staff and owners, good ales and great food. The dining area isn't posh but the service is great and the food fantastic if you like good, home cooked pub grub. I had probably the best steak and ale pie that I have ever tasted. Locals were all very friendly and we had a great evening in this lovely pub.

“Great pub, cracking food”
Reviewed September 8, 2011

After a few mediocre meals whilst visiting Somerset we finally found the county pub we were looking for.

The food was excellent and the landlord made us feel very welcome.

There was also no problem catering for my husbands egg allergy. He usually misses out on the home made pies as they are always pre made and glazed with egg but when we mentioned this to the landlord he said the pies were freshly made this morning and only glazed prior to cooking so he could have one with out the egg glaze.

We wish we had found this place sooner as we would have definately returned whilst we were holidaying in Somerset.

“Food was great!”
Reviewed August 28, 2011

Lovely pub. Don't be deceived by first appearances. Owner and locals very friendly here. My mother had fillet steak which was slightly overdone but still delicious and I had the 'George' cheeseburger- yum! Nice to see that they are dog-friendly too. Get there early for a parking space though folks as space is limited. I would return without hesitation.

“The Best Pub ever.....”
Reviewed July 28, 2011

Called in to the George by pure chance and I could never be more pleased. Although it was after 2-30pm there wasn't a problem with ordering food

[Had stopped at another pub at 1-50pm to be told that food stopped at 2-00pm so I left]

The George Inn is by far THE BEST PUB I have visited. The George The Thirst bitter is by far the best pint I have had in many a long year. The food is superb and good value for money. The friendly atmosphere cannot be beaten. Their CAMRA Award for 2011 is well deserved..

It would be worth moving house just to be able to have The George Inn as my local..
