We have travelled a lot around the world and have seen lots of lodges, so we feel confident to say that this was one of the best if not the best we had been to! And in order to say so all things have to fall together and to be great: location, landscape, rooms, garden, main house, staff, restaurant, activities, attitude, philosophy, ambience. Totoco has it all on top notch!
We reckon there is not a better location on the whole island for breathtaking views and amazing sunsets. The hilltop tropical garden is rich in flowers, plants and butterflies, and surrounds the lovely chalets that are made with style and taste, attention to details, ecology and natural cooling system.
The owners Roslyn and Jonathan are great people. They will help with advice and explanation and will take care of you with interest and devotion.
What the place could have had extra to make it a total perfection is a swimming pool. However, may be it will have one day (the place is just one year old), and you can have excursions to the lake or to a volcanic waterhole and swim there.
The information and photos on Totoco's webpage is true, but the reality is even better!
This really is a "must" place on the Ometepe Island, and Ometepe is a "must" place in Nicaragua, and Nicaragua is a "must" place in the world, especially now before crowds of tourists and the cement foot of Western civilization have not ruined the rural charm and sincerity of people there.

We stayed here for three nights and the lodges and location are brilliant. I was amazed at how conscious they are of the environment and how much effort the owners have made in this respect.

It's a beautiful location although quite a way from the Port along an unmade up road so as we were driving there I had some anxieties about where we were booked into but I soon cheered up once we'd arrived. We were welcomed and immediately shown our beautiful lodge with its' amazing views. You don't have to walk out of the grounds to find wildlife, just sit on the porch quietly for a while and it'll come to you, butterflies, birds, frogs (maybe snakes but I didn't see any!!)

The food was excellent and I didn't think it was particularly expensive given the quality. Tours can be arranged but we already had some arranged for us. I think the only drawback maybe was that it was a bit far from the lakeside but it had so many other advantages that it didn't matter. I'd definitely return.

This is a truly lovely eco-lodge surrounded by nothing but great nature. You will have the most breathtaking views there - tropical plants in front of the lodge, the volcano Concepción, surrounded by blue water of Lake Nicaragua – gorgeous… Just relax on the porch, enjoy the delicious menu every evening and have one of Martijs cocktails and fresh juices. The environmental and social responsibility is impressive and we wish the trio of Totoco all the best! The warm welcome and friendly atmosphere made our stay unforgettable and we would recommend everybody going to Ometepe not to miss this wonderful place.

We were enthusiastically advised by fellow travelers to stay at Totoco once we made it to Ometepe, but had no real "plan" to find it. We literally happened upon the sign for the lodge and made the hike up the road...WOW!!! It's truly beautiful. I'm an avid fan of off-the-grid and was blown away by the comforts made possible by people who have managed to artfully bring together their environmental compassion with creature comforts that "first world" folks expect. I have nothing but superlatives for Totoco, the over-the-top helpful trio who dreamed and brainstormed such a place, and the view...that in itself is worth the voyage there. Count yourself lucky if there's room for you!

This was our absolute favorite place that we stayed on our honeymoon in Nicaragua! Totoco is incredibly lovely -- the food is good, the staff is friendly and cool, the bungalows are great. We loved our private porch and hammock and the gorgeous sunsets with howler monkeys. The flowers were spectacular, and I've never seen such a profusion of butterflies. We relaxed on our porch, read, relaxed... The most adventurous thing we did (by choice) was a guided hike through the jungle to a coffee co-operative with Victor, who was great. My husband had a great massage. I would definitely stay here again, and recommend it highly.
