We enjoyed our 3 days at totoco. Martyn was extremely informative and interesting in explaining their ecofriendly approach at the lodge. We climbed Maderas volcano with Marlo who was a patient guide! We were very proud of ourselves for that accomplishment. Cabins are very clean each with its own private porch overlooking the forest and the volcano! It took me a while to get use to not being able to flush the toilet--everything is composted! We loved the natural setting and peacefulness of this place!

Room Tip: We stayed in Ometepetl cabin. All the cabins looked nice

Fairy new and still working out kinks but we really enjoyed our time at Totoco. The food was excellent, the property is beautiful, spacious rooms, helpful staff and they will organize tours, give you directions, whatever you want. A few minor drawbacks are that it’s somewhat secluded, 1.75 km up a rough road so it’s a little hard to get to and from other places easily, the wait staff (very nice) could use some training, and it’s a little pricy. It's very nice and comfortable but the rooms are not overly luxurious (after all, it’s an “eco-lodge”).

We knew what to expect, having visited Totoco in 2011, and were not disappointed. This is a perfect place for children (especially unplugged types like ours and our friends', who also stayed at Totoco with us). We love the setting, the mystical quality of the island, and the friendly, down-to-earth people. Ometepe is my favorite destination in Nicaragua (so far--I'm planning a third trip to other regions in the near future). We opted to try the horseback riding tour, and (though we are novice riders), had the experience of a lifetime. A jaunt along Playa Santa Cruz was stunning (see our photos included). I can't say enough about the Ometepe ambiance and the atmosphere at Totoco Eco-Lodge. They are both very special

Room Tip: We have stayed in Tonatiu and Echecatl--both beautiful (though Tonatiu has a breath-taking view of C...

Maybe one of the most unusually gentle places I have been.. Colorful vegetation and many paths on which to get lost whilst in awe of the surrounding beauty..Gentle people and atmosphere.. Thank you to Martijn and his staff for the fabulous energy you put into making your guests feel comfortable.

We stayed at the Totoco Eco-Lodge over the Christmas holiday and it was perfect. We are a family of four with 2 teens. The location was just beautiful. From the lodge, we were able to hike the Medaras Volcano. There is an entrance on the property. Martjin and Eric provided us with a guide who was knowledgeable and very nice. From the lodge, kayakying is a short drive. At the lodge, the rooms are beautiful. The food was excellent and the beds are super comfortable. Each night, there was a vegetarian and meat option for dinner. The view from the dining area is just breath taking. We had hot water in the shower which is not often the case in Nicaraguan hotels. Our kids had a comfortable bunk bed in the living room. We wish we could have stayed longer. The only advice that I have is that if you plan to drive yourself from the ferry, try to do it during day time hours. We got very lost at night. Unfortunately, the 2:30 ferry was cancelled and we had to travel in the dark. I highly recommend this lodge and hope to return.

We spent a few days in Ometepe during the holiday and we are very glad we picked this lodge. Despite the fact that it started w/ a misunderstanding, it all ended well in the end. We have requested a taxi pick up from the hotel upon arrival at the ferry pier. Driver went to the wrong pier (the 5pm ferry arrived at San Jose whereas driver went to Moyogalpa). To avoid waiting in the dark, we managed to find our own taxi to the lodge. But the moment we entered the lodge, all the stress dissipated. It is a beautiful lodge, and one can see there were a lot of thoughts that went into the layout of the cabins and its interior design. What we like about the lodge is that you can wake up and greeted right away by the Volcan Concepcion through your window, brushing teeth while starring at it, or swinging in your hammock and be absorbed by the view. Our favorite spot is also the infinity pool which meets the Volcan Concepcion and the lake. Food is also excellent. When you take the outdoor shower, be sure to look up the sky and watch the luna and the stars! It's a beautiful experience!

The views and cozy feeling you get from the lodge at Totoco are unlike any I have ever experienced in my travels. The difficulty in getting to the lodge, in my humble opinion, only adds to the charm of this hidden gym. The owner, Martijn, was nothing but helpful and constantly available for advice and anything else we needed. I arranged transport from Managua to Rivas through Totoco and, as is common in developing countries, things did not go quite as smoothly as possible. But the owner of Totoco was constantly calling the hotel in Managua that we were waiting at to make sure we knew he was doing everything in his power to resolve the situation. And once the taxi driver did show up, he could not have been more out going and was a true pleasure to share the hour or so ride with. My girlfriend and eye had an amazing experience and hope to return in the future. The only remotely bad thing I had to say was there was quite a few ants in our room, but seeing as though you are in the middle of the rain forest this was not a big deal and the mosquito nets kept all critters out. Would highly highly recommend.
