The location and this hotel are an odd combination. The town/village itself is small but beautiful. Literally nothing else was open at the time (late September) and I didn't even see anything like another restaurant or bar which could have been open.
However, this hotel is beautiful. Visually stunning and a great experience. Super friendly and helpful front office staff and excellent rooms. A nice place to base yourself to your the region.
We ate in the restaurant one night which was quite good. The wine list was excellent and the service was first class.
We procured some local produce throughout one day and adjourned to the roof top terrace for dinner on our own the other night. Stunning view and complete and utter isolation and quite overlooking the surrounding village, mountains and vines

We loved our stay at Hotel Viura in September 2013. A fantastic location from which to visit wine country. The restaurant was outstanding and served some of the best food we had in Spain. Intimate, friendly and modern. I highly recommend this unique hotel.

We had no issues getting here with GPS ( garmin) took us right to the place. Love this small boutique hotel. Our only regret is that we were just passing by on our way to Bilbao and stayed only one night. Because of the great reviews and how interested the placed looked I figured one day/night would be great .. and it was. Everyone id right on point. The contrast with the architecture of the hotel building sitting in the middle of this old town was pretty neat in my opinion .. I loved mixing the old and new.
The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The small town is right out of a post card , there is one bar in town , behind the church and one general store and one pharmacy. It seemed a bit like a ghost town but we really enjoyed having the town to ourselves to walk around ..it was fun to go thru all those narrow alleys. From what one of the staff members told us there are about 300 people that live in town and about 43 wine Bodegas !
I just had to ask because it seemed like no one was in town. She was very friendly and warm .. from the south of Spain!
Our room had a great view of the old town. The breakfast was great and our room was very clean. The restaurant was nice and we had dinner there , a bit over priced in my opinion. The food was good quality the wine selection was great. We did book in advanced for a tour of a local winery and this hotel was only a couple of miles away , so great find.
The hotel does not have a swimming pool .. this is the towns swimming pool and since we were there in dec . it looked pretty green.
They do have a small Gym with treadmill and cycle. I did not see the Spa.

The only small issue was the temperature control in the room .. it was hot in my opinion and we are from Florida .. had to crack the door to the balcony open , nice quiet breeze is all we heard .. very relaxing. Go to nearby La Guardia if you want a bit more action and I mean a little.
I hope I make it back here one day and get to stay just a little longer.

Room Tip: Try to get a room that overlooks the town or church. I think every room is quiet is just what you wa...

A few cautions: 1. Better rooms (more space, balcony, view) seemed to be priced equally with lesser. Try to sort this out before arrival. 2. Village streets are confusing. Google navigated us through threateningly narrow lanes to the useless rear façade of the hotel. The front approach is required and easier. Best to obtain detailed motoring directions in advance. 3. This is Spain: WiFi is iffy.

We loved our relaxing get-away in this sleepy little village. The dramatic exterior architecture, landscaping and interior design are oh-so-hip. The advant-garde rooms are of modest size, but very comfortable and spotlessly clean. An unusual warm front moved into the Rioja when we were there in late October, after the hotel a/c had been shut down. Upon request, technicians eventually restored.

Ask for a room with a balcony or terrace, then go outside to sip the splendid inexpensive wine that you purchased earlier in the day at one of the many bodegas located within a pleasant 30-minute country drive from the hotel. Alternatively, relax on the top-floor garden sundeck daytime or enjoy the striking illumination there evenings. Throwing on a jumper, we loved quiet night interludes on the deck with the village bathed in light and spread before us.

The restaurant is very good: Buffet breakfast offered a huge variety. The 5-course dinner was excellent, reflecting Basque influences along with good wine selection.

As other TripAdvisors have noted, the entire English-speaking staff is so friendly, helpful, savvy and engaging. Their recommendations for winery visits were right on. However, most Spanish vineyards demand advance bookings and offer English tours at limited times. Therefore organise these details with the staff several days in advance. If you’re driving, they will also recommend and book some outstanding out-of-the-way restaurants.

We definitely look forward to a return visit.

Room Tip: Request a balcony or terrace on a high floor. This boutique property has a small number of rooms.

This hotel is beautiful and modern. Nicely priced, comfortable and roomy. The surprise was the bathrooms in room had no real privacy, it was behind the headboard. A curtain for a door and the wall didn't reach the ceiling. If you are sharing a room, you should hope you can do all your "activities" quietly or you'll be sharing with everyone.

We stayed in this quirky building when making a wine visit to Rioja.
We ended up eating the tasting menu twice as it was so stunning and nowhere else compared to this in the region. In the heart of Rioja so easy to get to the main locations of interest. '

Room Tip: Have the tasting menu and ask to see the wine cellar.
