Very few times you can get to a small, boutique and cute hotel , and say!!! They really know what they doing !! HOTEL VIURA is one of them!! great food, breakfast and service few KM away from the Rioja wine soul Alavesa!!

love the set up!! swanky but not opulent!! and the personalize F&B service!!

will love to come back!!!

Room Tip: choose the ones looking at the old town .higher floors .not looking to the parking lot!

A few cautions: 1. Better rooms (more space, balcony, view) seemed to be priced equally with lesser. Try to sort this out before arrival. 2. Village streets are confusing. Google navigated us through threateningly narrow lanes to the useless rear façade of the hotel. The front approach is required and easier. Best to obtain detailed motoring directions in advance. 3. This is Spain: WiFi is iffy.

We loved our relaxing get-away in this sleepy little village. The dramatic exterior architecture, landscaping and interior design are oh-so-hip. The advant-garde rooms are of modest size, but very comfortable and spotlessly clean. An unusual warm front moved into the Rioja when we were there in late October, after the hotel a/c had been shut down. Upon request, technicians eventually restored.

Ask for a room with a balcony or terrace, then go outside to sip the splendid inexpensive wine that you purchased earlier in the day at one of the many bodegas located within a pleasant 30-minute country drive from the hotel. Alternatively, relax on the top-floor garden sundeck daytime or enjoy the striking illumination there evenings. Throwing on a jumper, we loved quiet night interludes on the deck with the village bathed in light and spread before us.

The restaurant is very good: Buffet breakfast offered a huge variety. The 5-course dinner was excellent, reflecting Basque influences along with good wine selection.

As other TripAdvisors have noted, the entire English-speaking staff is so friendly, helpful, savvy and engaging. Their recommendations for winery visits were right on. However, most Spanish vineyards demand advance bookings and offer English tours at limited times. Therefore organise these details with the staff several days in advance. If you’re driving, they will also recommend and book some outstanding out-of-the-way restaurants.

We definitely look forward to a return visit.

Room Tip: Request a balcony or terrace on a high floor. This boutique property has a small number of rooms.

This hotel is beautiful and modern. Nicely priced, comfortable and roomy. The surprise was the bathrooms in room had no real privacy, it was behind the headboard. A curtain for a door and the wall didn't reach the ceiling. If you are sharing a room, you should hope you can do all your "activities" quietly or you'll be sharing with everyone.

We stayed in this quirky building when making a wine visit to Rioja.
We ended up eating the tasting menu twice as it was so stunning and nowhere else compared to this in the region. In the heart of Rioja so easy to get to the main locations of interest. '

Room Tip: Have the tasting menu and ask to see the wine cellar.

My wife loved it, I didn't appreciate it at all. Except for the very skilled, friendly and helpful staff to me it was just a strange place. Was it modern??? With the cubic spaces, the naked concrete floors and ceilings, with the waste wood used as decoration??? I don't know. Was it minimalistic??? I think so. What counts for me is that you can feel a bit cosy in a hotel, maybe a bit at home. That was not the case in this one. Moreover the price of a standard room at more then $ 200 average per night for a small sized room that looked outward to a stone wall is way overpriced. The breakfast, restaurant and bar service were more then OK. The location was not good, tucked away in a silent wine village that boasts 45 wineries on 200 inhabitants, but doesn't have restaurants or a selection of bars. I will not return!

Stay Oktober 2013
Its a small hotel making the hotel less crowded.

Hotel Design:
Just like the photos, the hotel is decorated refreshing unique furnishing.
Unfortunately the internet Wi-Fi connection in our room 208 was very poor but the connection in common area was good.

Location:
We had a rental car, and find that the hotel location was perfect in the region. Was not far from Frank Gerry design hotel, Calatrava design bodega, and other local attractions.

Restaurant:
Meal at the restaurant was great. We had the Menu Sensation 2013, and i cant only admire the fine cuisine. Breakfast was great. Service staff was Excellent. They really make the night. Friendly, speak good english and always very friendly. The Korean Intern was super great.

Staff:
Great!! Super friendly.

Facility:
Small Gym, Rooftop Bar/Lounge, Free Wi-Fi, Ample Parking, I dun even turn on the TV, Fridge in Room,

In Spain Siesta is from 2-5pm. All the shops are CLOSED.

Room Tip: Zimmer mit Balkon bitte. Rooms with Balcony

Wanted somewhere different and special to stop in Rioja for my 50th birthday. Hotel and staff lived up to expectations. Great. Location, although don't believe your sat nav if you put gps coordinates in! Ended up in a farmers yard at one point!

Once there though, hotel is calm, tranquil and stylish. Staff had organised two vinery tours for us. Food in restaurant excellent and tapas etc in the attached bar/wine shop next door was good. Wine was excellent quality at 1.40€ for a small glass of white Rioja (I swear they keep the good stuff for themselves, quite right too!)

As it was mid August the village was pretty deserted, but those locals still about were very friendly. If you are looking somewhere a bit different to stop (a la Mama Shelter, but not quite as eclectic) then you can't go far wrong.

They even brought a small cake (with one candle on it) to the roof terrace after we had eaten as it was my birthday, how cool is that?

One niggle, for a really good hotel, I was expecting fluffier towels (almost Travelodge standard) and some comp slippers would have been a good idea with it being polished concrete floors!

Room Tip: Some of the largest rooms are at the back, so not a great view, but really stylish.
