I struggle to think of a hotel I've enjoyed staying at so much. One of the few design hotels where the reality really lives up to the photos on the website. This is uncompromising modern design, but with warmth and personal touches that make it very special. We had 2 nights there and ate there both nights. The food is good, perhaps not up to the ambitions of whoever writes the menu and sets the prices, but enjoyable all the same, and overall it was a joy to while away a couple of evenings there, on the roof terrace overlooking the town and in the bar with the friendly staff chatting away. Couldn't recommend the place more.

We were really excited for this stop in our Spain journey - and particularly about staying at this hotel. Unfortunately we did not have a great time here and ended up leaving to go stay at the Marques de Riscal. The hotel itself was beautiful, but our problems were that the staff was unfriendly and just not that helpful; the rooms were pretty, but the hotel itself is loud and you can hear everything in the hallway going on; the restaurant had 'ok' food but, again, the staff was not helpful...they were really slow and ignored us half the time. We went in August, so there was not a lot to do in the town. They are attached to a neighborhood community pool which they allow you to use but it's constantly filled with children. There's just one restaurant on the premises and no spa. Wish we would have had a better experience here.

A true gem. The hotel is a very fashionable piece of modern arquitechture, in the middle of an old spanish village. Rooms are wide and spacious, and decoration has a taste of the wine culture. As the only con, we missed a little of attention on arrival, someone to take care and bring our baggages to the room.

Room Tip: Views to the old village are essential.

During the summer we spent a few days in the Rioja Alavesa region and searched for a different but luxurious hotel. We found Viura and had a few very good days there.
Location: The hotel is situated next to the village church and square in Villabuena. It is a great location for exploring the wine region. The village is also interesting because it is said that it has the highest density of bodegas compared with how many inhabitants...
Reception: Very kind and helpful!
Rooms: Big and spacious, simple style, built with concrete. Maybe not everyones's taste, but I loved it!
Bar: Great service, be sure to use the spectacular roof terrace.
Breakfast: Not up to the standard of the hotel. This both goes for the assortment and for the unskilled staff.
Dinner: At Viura they serve a Tasting Menu. It was very good priced. We payed 70 €. The quality was good, but not fantastic. Great service by a young lady from Korea!
Pool: There is no pool at the hotel, but you get access to the village pool through the hotel.
Internet: Free wifi.
Winebar: There is a great venue just outside the back door where we tasted some very nice wines. If you are lucky like we were you will get the opportunity to talk to some of the owners' of the bodegas in the village! Just over the village square is the village pub; a very different experience...
Final note: When we were there they did not honor our SLH membership.
Hope to come again sometime soon!

I endorse the previous reviewer. This was a welcome change to 3 weeks in France with small hotel rooms small beds & hopeless showers. My wife wanted to stay another few days.We loved the design & art work.Dinner was very good & the sommelier very helpful in suggesting smaller local wines rather than the names I was accustomed to.We would return.
