Spent two nights at the Gallivant, including breakfast (continental buffet) and dinner; altogether, a reasonable deal. Location - just across the road from Camber Sands dunes + beach - is excellent (and, it being mid-September, not too overrun with people); good for walks on the beach or across the adjacent Rye golf club (paths signposted); I could also put my kayak into the sea half a mile to the east, where the tidal reach is much less and the (free) public car park abuts the sea-wall. Hotel rooms are clean and neat, if a bit small and rather cluttered with seaside bric-à-brac; small wooden patios at the back are a plus (e.g., for drying wet clothes . .); plumbing and wi-fi both fine. Food, both breakfast and dinner, was good (worth getting the full board option, since dinner is not cheap), though service is quite leisurely. We don't have a dog but have no objection to their presence in one section of the restaurant.

Very friendly, relaxed hotel and we really enjoyed our stay. The staff were extremely helpful. Though small, our room was very clean and we liked the simplicity. Our young and enthusiastic dog was made to feel welcome too and the facilities were ideal for our stay with her. The food was excellent too.

We booked two nights at the Gallivant with a lot of expectations, the reviews are excellent and the location looked perfect. We have a 15 months old baby with us, and so we wanted the breakfast and dinner experience, we went all in, and we were a little disappointed. It was a lot of money and the attention to detail wasn't quite there, and we are not fussy people. The restaurant and the hotel felt like 2 different places. But the food was excellent, the gardens are gorgeous, the staff is friendly and the beach is so close.

Lovely couple of days with the sea breeze in our hair a stones throw from the beach. Delicious breakfast & a very enjoyable supper. Comfortable room and relaxing ambience , quiet night. The gorgeous beach of Camber sands is directly opposite with wellingtons or flip flops available to borrow depending on the weather .
