We booked with friends after seeing an offer in Sainsbury magazine and paid £145.00 for dinner, bed and breakfast for two. The bedrooms are clean and quiet, the bed was very comfortable and there were some nice touches in the room such as a beach bag and books for guests use. There was plenty of hot water in the bathroom, good quality toiletries and robes.
The staff were all friendly and curtious. We enjoyed a five course tasting menu which was excellent and clearly used local ingredients, there was a good selection of wines to choose from and the wines we had with dinner were all excellent quality and reasonably priced. The only slight let down was that at the end of the meal we ordered cheese which was a bit disappointing, especially at £7.50 per person, perhaps we should have asked what the cheeses were beforehand. They were probably local cheeses and we had expected the waiting staff to tell us as they had taken the time to explain our tasting menu in great detail at the start of the meal, perhaps after a busy night all they wanted to do was go home. We all had cooked breakfast the next morning which again was excellent. Unfortunately we did not have time to explore the area on this occasion but would definately consider a return visit and a walk along the beach next time.

Thank you for your feedback. How frustrating that your experience was let down by the cheese course - our staff should have been far more attentive - we only serve a few local cheeses and they are great, especially when they are presented correctly - which evidentially didn't happen as we would have liked the evening you stayed. Do come back and try out the beach for size - it's amazing. I will pass on your comments to the chef - thank you.

A two day break. Staff were friendly and helpful. Lovely comfy room with ensuite but the toilet needed a better flush. Good quality local food a real treat. A great location with wonderful breathtaking walks.

Thank you DaveM - the beach is amazing at this time of the year (as are the marshes, Dungeness, Rye, Fairlight cliffs, Pett Level...) Thank you for your kind comments about our food - most if it sourced from suppliers that live and work around us.

We have stayed at many Hotels with our two dogs. We would rate the Gallivant Hotel very highly. The room was lovely and very practical. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We thought the breakfasts were excellent.

We liked many aspects of this hotel. The location to the beautiful dog friendly beach, The private entrance to our room, the covered porch and seeting area and the very comfortable room.

We will be visiting again.

Bedroom good. Excellent firm mattress. Bathroom so-so - Shower in the bath and coloured bath! Non vegetarian food quite excellent. My wife had the best ever salt marsh lamb. Vegetaian gnocchi dish very boring. Service excellent. Floor of the cafe-dining room needs a good clean. Staff friendly and polite.

Thank you for your review Michael. I'm not entirely sure how to respond - you say the bath is coloured, but all our bathrooms are white and the non vegetarian food quite excellent but the vegetarian gnocchi dish very boring...overall though I think you had a good time and thank you for taking the time to review us.

Just returned from a 2 day break at the Gallivant and it feels like i have been away for weeks. The staff are fantastic, friendly and extremely helpful. The rooms are very comfortable and the location couldn't be better. The beautiful beach at Camber Sands is a 5 minute stroll and historic Rye can be reached by foot in about half an hour or by road in 5 mins. Then food served in the bisrto is first class fare, very fresh and beautifully prepared. Given the proximity to the coast the main aspect of the menu is fish and seafood based (although there are meat and veggie options) so baer that in mind if that isn't your thing. All in all a brilliant time was had at the Gallivant and I will be returning again soon

Hi cossie93
We are very glad you had such a relaxing stay. A lot of guests comment on spending a few days with us feels like they've been away for weeks...apart from what we are doing to try and ensure you really have a great time we are in such an extraordinary location - the beach, dunes, the enormous skies, the waves, the lack of crowds...all this I think gives the mind a real sensory break. Staying with us gives you the best of both worlds - a beach and space to escape to and the beautiful village of Rye a couple of miles away to explore. We hope to see you again soon!
best wishes

We stayed at the Gallivant Hotel this weekend. Our rooms (2) nos 8 and 17 were immaculate - everything on 'board' you could expect from a top hotel - I love being able to make a cup of tea or coffee within the room but a tip if you take milk you need to go to the bar and they will give you a jug to take back to your room. A completely new experience for us. Our evening meal was excellent and our waiter (Marius) was so helpful, with a sense of humour (think we drove him mad for a while). The walk across the dunes and beach was quite amazing, we just regretted not taking Camber with us. Oh! the breakfast was fantastic as well but be warned with the toast making machine - nightmare. The bed was so comfortable we slept like logs by the way. Our room was overlooking the car park and there was a degree of noise from there and cars from the road but frankly the experience from the hotel far over passed this. We cant wait to go back and if you are chilled and not too demanding we can not recommend this hotel enough.

Room Tip: Rooms on the side of the hotel whereby you have to walk through the elements to get into the hotel a...

Dear Chatham24
Thank you for your lovely review, and recommending us so highly. Sorry about the toasting machine, we have been through every conceivable toasting device and this was the best of the lot - sometimes however guests twiddle with the heating controls and this might have happened when you were staying.

Just back from 2 nights with our dogs at this hotel.

The staff were very friendly and efficient, the rooms were very well specified, and we enjoyed our stay immensely. The breakfasts were excellent. We also enjoyed dinner at the Beach Bistro one evening, I think the steak was amongst the best I have had, although my wife felt
the food wasn't well-season.

I feel that their website, whilst fairly informative and well laid out, lacked some room specific information - there IS a kettle, cups etc and also hairdryer in the rooms.

Also my wife found a discounted price online for our stay but was unable to book this via their website, so this had to be confirmed by phone, no confirmation email arrived, so my wife emailed for this to be sent. When the email arrived the price stated was more than 150% the agreed price, it took several phone calls for this to be resolved satisfactorily.

So the Gallivant hotel should enhance their online booking procedure to allow for discounts when available to remove this hassle.

I forgot to feedback to the hotel (via guest feedback form) that they should consider perhaps fully enclosing the area behind the dog-friendly accomodation, to make it safe to let dogs off-lead, as this area is already mostly fenced.

Also a fridge in the rooms would be nice.

But to finish, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely return to this hotel if in the area.

Room Tip: Check out price comparison websites, and phone the hotel to book for discount, because this may not...

Hello Itinerant
Thank you for your considered review. Managing the third party booking sites is a real headache for a hotel of our size and on occasion problems occur however I am glad everything was resolved satisfactorily and you had good stay with us and would like to return. We are constantly looking at ways to enhance guest experience and we have been looking at creating individual gardens for each the rooms on the back of the hotel although nothing has been decided yet.
kind regards
