“A good local Indian”
Reviewed August 15, 2013

They've survived there for more than 20 years so they must be doing something right.
The food is good straightforward Indian fare. Nothing special and no "signature" dishes. Just the basic stuff. Reasonably priced and with a good selection of drinks.
The staff manage to be cheerful, efficient and helpful despite the busy atmosphere.
Rocky is the charming host and he has steered the restaurant expertly over the years. They have lots of local competition but always seem to be busy ( beware Friday and Saturdays when the place can be stuffed).
Yes, the decor is dated and really needs a makeover but as I think they are planning on expanding into the property next door, that has probably been put on hold for a while.
If you like your "Ruby" no frills with your mates this is first choice.
If you want a more exotic and refined atmosphere all you have to do is cross the road to the Maya.

“Disgusted. Treatment of blind people draconian.”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

I have eaten at this restaurant a number of times. The food is good to average, however I will never go there again. The managers treatment of a blind person with a guide dog was unbelievable. The manger clearly did not know the law when refusing entry of a guide dog. Even when blind person told him he was breaking the law by refusing him, the manger had the cheek to tell him to tie the dog to a lamppost find his own way on. He offered an excuse that people may have allergies which was beyond a joke. Suggest the owner takes a good look at law and advises his staff accordingly. Disgusting.

“food ok, service good, terrible decor”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

Been here twice, always a flip between here and maya . An average restauarnt does seams to be stuck in 1978, but the food is ok.The service was friendly.

“Fantastic food”
Reviewed July 22, 2013

I love the food here and the staff here are great.
They are always busy but can cope with the high demand.
This will always be a fantastic place to spend time with friends or family and have a good meal.

“Great food and service for 20 years!”
Reviewed July 5, 2013

We have been enjoying Rocky and the team's food and service for 20 years! During this time we had some memorable and fantatsic evenings, eating some of the most delicious currys and associated dishes. When it's busy, it can take a bit longer to get served and for your food to arrive, but so what? Just enjoy the company of whoever you're with, have another beer and some more pompadums and chill out!! If you go to any restaurant when it's busy you'll experience the same problems. But the difference is that in the Red Rose the bill will be about £20 a head versus a central London equivalent of £50! Hopefully all the people recently complaining will eat somewhere else and that will make it easier for us to get a table in our favourite 'Friday Night Special'.

I wouldn't call the food adventurous but rather like a favourite old leather jacket, that when you put it on it just sort of feels right. Same with the Red Rose. it's comfort food that just tastes great and makes you feel good about life. If you want 'trendy' Indian food plenty of places serve it and charge accordingly. You pays your money....
