“Quality Family Vacation”
Reviewed June 11, 2014

We have visited Mbotyi several times in the past, with our last visit September 2013. We stayed in a sea facing log cabin. On arrival we poured ourselves drinks on the cabin patio and sat and stared at the beautiful surroundings. The hotel served good meals - breakfast and dinner included. We enjoyed a barbeque for every lunch. Time spent together as a family is why we go to Mbotyi.

Family activities include:
- Long walks on the beach
-4 x4 Drive along the coast on the grass lands with breathtaking oceans views
- Beach sport activities (tennis, football. etc)
- Trail running on the dirt road up the mountain
- Hiking on trails next to the coast
- Fishing in the logoon at Mbotyi
- Sunbathing next to the pool with drinks
- Table tennis in playroom late afternoon
- We also went fishing with Johan Spamer at the Port St John's River Mouth, where after we stop for KFC on our way back to Mbotyi Lodge.

There is more than many activities to do as a family. We also enjoy our afternoon naps and lazy mornings, with reading in the lounge at night before dinner.

What a peaceful place to stay if you appreciate when the sunrise and beautiful nature greet you every morning.

We will do this again!

Room Tip: Sea facing log cabins are best situated - but more corly

It is a beautiful setting where you feel at home. We arrived late that night and they had no problem to accommodate us and serve us dinner although the kitchen was already closed. The food we very good and the service good. They went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. The only negative comment is that the rooms are a bit dated and can do with a new touch. I did feel that it was a bit overpriced.

Such a beautiful setting, but the lack of proper management really let's down this attraction.
The food is very poor and the service is shocking.
Very overpriced and a pity as with upgrading of rooms and service the views could be worthwhile

Stayed there last month and the views are wonderful. The public areas are good, I liked the comfortable seating. The food was a bit of a hit or a miss and you wouldn't have to be in a hurry. The accommodation was really pretty tired and not as clean as it could be - cracked toilet bowl, broken flooring, damaged basin and blacken grouting. We had no key with which to lock the door until the second day. Needs a cash injection to bring the place up to standard. Our trip to the 3 Waterfalls was an adventure - the rain caught us out and turned the track to a mixture of mud and dung. I had the misfortune to be sitting behind the driver and got covered - some people pay good money for that sort of beauty treatment! Our guide, Pete(?) was excellent and very patient with our Saga group. I would not have crossed the river without his help.

A few weeks ago some friends and I were running down the Wild Coast and overnighted at Mboyti Lodge. Nothing was too much for the staff at Mboyti to help us - afternoon sandwiches for hungry runners, extra fruit at dinner, a rush laundry job and breakfast at 05h30 in the morning and delicious lunch packs for our next day of adventure! After a tough day of running there is nothing like being met by kind and helpful people...

Room Tip: I enjoyed our room on the southerly side of the property!

My wife and I do a lot of local and international travelling and have by far experienced the best service of any South African establishment at Mboyti River Lodge. A very personal touch, great food and beautiful location.

Well done guys
