As we went out of season we were lucky enough to get a sea facing room, but would have been happy with any other room as they all have views. The staff went out of their way for us and nothing was to much trouble for them. Breakfast is till 9.00am, we would have preferred it be until 10.00am as most people go for early morning walks, fishing etc and get back to late for breakfast Having said that, they went out of their way to make breakfast for us on our return after 9.00am. Dinner was superb with a lovely seafood platter. Rooms very comfortable. Great bar with a wide selection of drinks. Games room just off the bar which is an added bonus. Swimming pool with lounges close to rooms, dinning hall which is greatbforvparents with younger children. They even have a small library, reading glasses are attached to a string in case you forgot yours, we thought that was a classic!! There is plenty to do and anything you need can be arranged by the hotel, body massages etc., guided walks to the magnificent waterfalls, visit to a Sangoma, visit to the local town, horse riding, bike riding, the list is endless. We will definitely be back and this time taking a whole crowd of people to show them what a beautiful place this is to go to.

Room Tip: We had a sea facing room, corner suite which had a nice size balcony.

The staff create a casual friendly atmosphere and are always eager to help. Completely isolated from civilisation, but still comfortable. Felt safe walking on our own to explore the beautiful area. The perfect spot for a holiday to relax and explore a beautiful part of the country.

We arrived at the lodge on the 20th of September 2013.
It's a must stay no shorter than 2 day.
Every staff member was friendly and so eager to help.this lodge it truly a get a way lodge.
As we were on honeymoon the lodge really made us feel like we ouwned the lodge.
Free range safe and really well up kept. It's clean the food is out of this world.
The activities is a must do, the waterfalls Phill took us to eas mind blowing.
We ended the day with a amazing horse ride with really well looked after animals then a sundowner on the deck over the ocean view watching dolphins playing in the distance.

They have a play room for kids and adults to enjoy a huge variety of game together. Pool, table tennis and lots more.

Mbotyi made our Honeymoon a really amazing time.

Thank you to the staff it was wow.

To anyone reading this, book a break away, we glad we did.

Room Tip: Any room is good.

I've been there out of season, in a dive expedition, and that could have counted...
The place is very nice and well located between beach and river. You can ride horses, kaiak, climb rocks and much more, but you do not service at all. Tv had only one channel, with rugby games. No internet, except on the reception. Food is really not good, service very bad. It was impossible to have drinks with food because you have to order food from the kitchen and drinks from the bar, and the guys were never there. The restaurant closes in between meals and you have no other place to eat in kilometers. It's african service in the very worst meaning!

Lovely clean accommodation at very reasonable prices. The views are breath taking, some amazing coastline. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was awesome and much better than expected. All in all a very pleasant trip & some lovely memories to take home with me.

We stayed here for one night. It's not really a suitable place for just an overnight stay, but that isn't the lodges fault (rather out travel agency). (Not suitable because there's so much to do which we didn't have time for - take at least a few days when you're at this lodge).

The 25km gravel road leading up to the lodge seems daunting but is easily accessible by a regular sedan and adds to the experience.

Staff was very friendly. Room was comfortable and cozy, although the bathroom could use a few upgrades (leaky toilet, shower curtain full of fungi).

Went as a family to Mbotyi and found it very comfortable and clean. The rooms were nice, the food pleasant and the surroundings awesome. It is located on a spectacular part of the coast and we enjoyed exploring the area. We did several of the walks and bike-rides around as well as horse-rides, mostly local, but to Hole-In-the-wall as well (8hrs there and back). Good guides available, but mostly doable on your own. There was time and space to chat and play board games. Slightly closer to Durban than Umngazi, it took us about 5 hrs to get there. Reasonably priced and made me want to hike from hotel to hotel along that coastline.
