Hotel de la Demi-Lune

We ended up booking at the last minute and could only get their "suite" which consisted of two larger rooms on the 3rd floor. Cost-wise it was about the same as booking two single rooms, but the thrill was knowing that my room (with the tiny single bed) was actually in the watch tower over the Medieval Bridge that is one of the beautiful sights and landmarks of Sainte Ursanne. We mainly hiked the Doubs River and therefore only really crashed in the hotel -- but the owner (who has a great picture standing beside a famous former UN Secretary General) was lovely and super excited the night Greece won a football game...they broke plates in the kitchen for about 20 minutes afterwards in celebration!

Room Tip: We splurged, and took the "suite" on the 3rd floor. One room had a double (queen) bed and...

St Ursanne is a charming little village in the Clos De Doubs district of the Swiss Jura. This is a rural and largely untouched area, and the village is very historic with various buildings dating from the 16th century or so. It is located midway between Delemont and Porrentruy.

The best thing about St. Ursanne is this hotel, which has the best location in the village, with a restaurant terrace immediately adjacent to the ancient bridge over the Doubs River. The terrace overlooking the river was a great place to enjoy dinner and breakfast. The food was excellent, french/swiss.

After booking by email, we received a very warm welcome from Desiree and Marcel and were well taken care of throughout our stay. Their web site is pretty easy to google up, and it shows how each room is different. The pics of our room provided a quite accurate depiction.

We stayed in Chambre 6, which was a long walk up 2 flights of stairs. It had a village view with mountains behind which was quite pleasant, however I wondered why I disn't spend the extra CHF40 for Chambre 7, with its great view over the river and valley. Maybe I was beguiled by the delightful bathroom in Ch. 6 which turned out to have mega pressure hot water.

I list the bad with the good, but I really found next to nothing to fault in this charming hotel, and village. You had to park your car in a car park across the river, there being very little parking in town. But that was a level two minute walk away.

I think the Jura mountains are a bit overlooked given they are overshadowed (at least metaphorically) by Switzerland's Alps, which added to the charm, its hard to imagine why this place isn't overrun by tourists. But who would complain about that!!
