“What a great surprise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 15, 2012

We were planning on visiting Inhotim for a long time and when we finally did I regretted I hadn´t done it before. This is a whole day visit, there´s a nice buffet restaurant with a great variety of fresh salads and after lunch you can relax by just walking around the outdoor sculptures.

“Nothing comparable in the whole world!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

If Disneyworld had a child with the Bienal de São Paulo, and this child would be godmothered by Jardim Botânico do Rio de Janeiro, that's what you would get.
If you like contemporary art, you must stamp your passport here. There's nothing like that in the world.
Hundreds of Installations are spread through a Botanical Garden and surprise you in every corner . It's fun, it's educational, it's mind boggling.
The views are awesome, the food is good.

“Bad communication, bad labeling, too expensive...”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 30, 2012

I have to admit that I'm pretty sad that the experience wasn't as, it seems so many people...

First of all, the lack of communication at the entrance is a bit limited. They should explain that if you want to take the little cars to go at the end of the museum (practical when you don't have much time like us (we stayed three hours)) you have to buy the right band/ticket entrance... this is just an example... This is the place that we wanted to go the most as it's where the best expositions are. But we have been turned down from the place, that isn't actually next to the entrance... You can find all the details here: http://www.inhotim.org.br/index.php/p/v/209-653

Have a look at the website, it's very complete... Shame we didn't went on there beforehand.

We've noticed that some of the labeling were also just useless... Imagine a label next to a tree saying : Tree... it was about the same for some exhibitions.

And then, the content... Where we found some very nice, gorgeous and clever pieces, we also found some ridiculous one (and I'll stop there to avoid to be sued by the creators)
In our team we had an art teacher, and I swear at some point I heard her saying: "what's the point?" (that I thought for 70% of what we saw)...
Some of the ideas we understood, admired and studied for a while. However, there's is a -what I call- "pain room" where you see pictures of dead people who had accidents and that was just vile. Curiosity aside, it's just plain gross and shocking. What is the creator idea I presume, but then I wouldn't recommend to anyone to enter the room as it's really strong and after two third of the visit (of the room) we just made a quick exit... it was just too much to take in... and the structure was a bit horrible with the cardboard and tape...

The things that you HAVE to see:

Galeria Adriana Varejao (inspired from the Portuguese blue tiles)
Galeria Mata (this is the best one of all !!!, try lifting the floor and create something with it... or lose yourself in the paterns)
Desvio para o vermelho I: Impregnação, II: Entorno, III: Desvio (the red room that we couldn't see, sadly)
Means of a Sudden Intuitive Realization (fiberglass igloo with water fountain and strobe light... weird, but nice)
Forty Part Motet (you'll never imagine surround sound in any other way)

“Excellent Park and Museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2012

If you are in Belo Horizonte area, then you should arrange a day to visit this place, no matter how long you're planning to stay in Minas Gerais. This is the most prepared place near Belo Horizonte to receive tourists, and you cannot miss this magnificent attraction. The park has the majority of it's gardens designed by Burle Marx, and if you're not interested in visiting a museum with a lot of enormous monuments and galleries, then you should treat this visit as a visit to a wonderful park.

It's located in Brumadinho (around 50 minutes away from the capital) and there are some buses that can take you there, even though I highly recommend you to check a tour with an agency.

The city of Brumadinho does not have a lot to offer, so be prepared to stay inside Inhotim's facilities for the entire day. They have two options of restaurants (both of them expensive), but you can also take your own snacks and "pique-nique" there, around one of the green lakes.

Go on your most comfortable shoes. The entire park has around 250 acres and the galleries are separated in different buildings. Some of them are so distant that they offer some golf carts that can take you.

The museum often offers different attractions (concerts with different Brazilian artists) and it's also great. Check on the museum's website what's going on.

“A wonderful park, a great museum”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 18, 2012

The Inhotim museum is itself a work of art. Well maintained gardens, knowledge and polite staff, great open areas for all ages, transport all around the park using golf carts. The buildings housing the art work are sometimes more interesting then the art itself (a matter of taste, obviously). Almost all the building have at least a bathroom, and usually some food stand next to it, to insure maximum comfort. A great place to visit with family and friends.
