“Fantastic place to stay.”

This B&B has stunning see views, very cosy and comfortable rooms and a lounge for the guests to use. Owner Susan is very welcoming and friendly and even made us tea with biscuits and chocolate upon arrival and a wee dram at the second night.
Really recommendable and we would love to come again one day.

Stayed at Swallows Roost for three nights in June. What a treat. Welcoming hosts, large, clean room with use of a massive guest's lounge. All situated high above the sea with spectacular views. A extensive continental breakfast was served in guest's dining room. A special visit.

We stayed on Islay for 4 nights in early June. Swallows Roost was by far the best place we stayed in during 5 weeks of travel in Ireland and the UK. The location certainly contributed to this, with the wonderful views. The bedroom was large and clean, the bed was very comfortable and the ensuite was spotless (and serviced daily). The Internet access was fast and reliable, both in our room and in the guest lounge.
The family go to great lengths to ensure their guests are not disturbed. We were lucky to have the guest lounge to ourselves as we were the only guests, and it was a pleasure to have Susan and/or David to pop in for a wee chat and a dram, to catch up on our day's activities. The continental breakfast was plentiful and tasty, and Susan was kind enough to allow us a late breakfast one morning when we needed a sleep in. She was even more kind in offering to do our washing for a very reasonable price!
We loved Islay, and will be back one day - and hopefully Swallows Roost will still be offering accommodation. Maybe we'll try the self-contained pod next time: we had a tour, and it looks perfect for a family, couple or two couples.

Room Tip: The Kingsize room has a stunning view!

I travelled to Islay with my mum and stayed at Swallow's Roost for two nights. The drive up the hill is well worth it. The position overlooking Port Ellen and the water is stunning. The accommodation is first rate - lovely rooms, ensuites and a generous visitors' lounge with a view - but the real gem of this B&B is the warm hospitality of owner Susan, husband David and in-laws Mary and Ralph. Whether it's a cuppa on arrival, a wee dram in the evening or a chat about your plans for day, the welcome is genuine and warm.

We had come to Islay to try to fill in a few blanks on my family tree. Amazingly Mary and Susan were able to suggest some locals to speak to and some places to visit.

I'd love to return to Islay again soon and wouldn't hesitate to stay at Swallow's Roost again. Only thing that could make the stay any better? Possibly trying out Susan's brand new, self-contained pod which has been built in the grounds.

Rarely write reviews but had to after our stay here in late May. View from B & B was spectacular, as was the service and breakfast. Susan was very accommodating and Ralph had been generous enough to give us a lift when we were stuck. Overall, I would consider this one of the best experiences at a B & B and would certainly return. Thank you for a great memory.

Susan made us very welcome from the moment we arrived. Swallow's Roost is situated high up, overlooking Port Ellen - a stunning view on a clear day. The house is new and is finished to a high standard. Our large bedroom had the same stunning view and the bed was very comfortable. We also had the use of a large, comfortable sitting room with widescreen television. The continental breakfast was excellent and made a nice change from the usual cooked breakfast.
We were on Islay for three days and it pretty much rained the whole time. However with plenty of Whisky distilleries to visit (we got to six out of the eight) we were never bored. There aren't many good eating places in Port Ellen so I would recommend taking lunch at the Ardbeg and Bowmore distilleries - excellent.

We stayed here during the heat wave in 2013, and had a fantastic time, made to feel more like we were visiting friends than staying at a BnB.
Could not recommend it enough, we will be coming back on our next visit to Islay.

As Whisky drinkers swallows roast is in a great location as we walked from here to Ardbeg, via Laphoaig and Lagavulin. So is ideal if you want to walk off the effects of a whisky tasting session.
