I have never felt so unwelcome in a restaurant in all my life. Me and my partner and my five year old child arrived at the restaurant at six, we got a drink and asked the bar man if we could have the menu, the nice Bar man told us that the kitchen would open at 6:30, so we decided to wait. At 6:30 a lady walked up to us, very rudely and told us that children are not welcome and that they was not serving food until 7, as they had to clean the oven first. We then collected our things while she stood over us and left. Such a rude lady. She did say that there was signs saying no children , which we did not see and the bar man should have informed us on arrival.

We are very sorry that did not feel welcome, but as explained at the time we do not cater for children under 8yrs in the resturant and under 14yrs in the bar, there is an A4 notice explaining this in the entrance to the restaurant and at the bar. It is unfortunate that in a case like this everybody gets tarred with the same brush as you child was well behaved. We have had many problems with badly behaved and noisy children in the past, we have also had furtiture ruined and other diners have walked out. Once again we aplogise and we hope you come back one day and try our food children are welcome in the garden. Thank you Sue

Food and the welcome last Sunday lunchtime was excellent.
All the family were impressed - the desserts were first class.
Thanks Sue, Egil and all the team at the Ivy House.
Long may it continue! :)

Five of us had lunch at the Ivy house. The menu is not the one on line but consist of three separate menus including the daily blackboard. You can mix between the fixed price menus. It was not busy and the welcome was not really warm but as there were a number of us so we created our own environment. Service was fine and the meals had good portions and fresh ingredients. Good pub grub. Deserts seem to be the real strength with an outstanding fruit pavlova for one of our number. The ice in of the welcome thawed a bit when regulars came in who were known to some of our party. All in all a great pub meal but it helps if there are a lot of you.

it's a wonderful place, a gem. To eat where the food has a skillful and loving touch is such a pleasure. I travel a long way to eat Sue's cooking and it is one of the few things that I look forward to when I am never disappointed. Warning - book in advance and enjoy.

We arrived as five hungry and thirsty cyclists on a Friday lunch time - in cycling kit but clean, decent, middle-aged people. We were very frostily told that there was no room for us, notwithstanding there was at least one free table. On leaving and just about to mount our cycles a thoroughly rude woman - possibly the publican's wife - told us that they would be prepared to serve us in the gazebo in the back garden, which she thought would be suitable for us. Obviously we declined the offer. It was a real shame for them as we went to a neighbouring hostelry, spent lots of money and then continued our cycle ride to the coast.
