Stayed three nights in the hotel and ate in the restaurant each night. ..the food was brilliant and portion size was quite large. After cycling 70 miles I could still not manage a dessert.

“Cyclists welcome!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 20, 2014

A group of 10 friends and I were on a 40 mile hilly cycle on a sunny Easter Saturday. A couple of us had run out of water. The Carronbridge hotel, a few miles away, refused to fill our water bottles with tap water, so we headed over the Tak and stopped here instead. We enjoyed friendly efficient service...and the outdoor seating in the sunshine! We would definitely stop here again......though best to do it AFTER the hill climbs, as the portions were pretty generous! PS Thanks for filling our water bottles! x

“Poor”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 12, 2014

We went recently for lunch in a party of four. When we arrived the place was busy but we had to stand for a good 3-4 minutes without being acknowledged by staff even though they passed us by quite a few times. I don't need immediate attention but a nod or a smile to let us know we have been seen would be fine.
We ordered our meals and had to wait for 45 minutes before a waitress came over and told us that our order had been missed by the kitchen and would be with us shortly. My elderly father joked that a discount for our trouble would be nice but all he got back was a scowl.
The meals came and they were acceptable but pricey for 4 bar lunch meals [eg lasagne/ burger etc], 3 soft drinks & 1 pint of heavy coming to £50. No starters or desserts.
My main complaint was the staff. We were served by about 4 different staff and none of them smiled or seemed friendly. They all had the look that they hated their job and we were being a bother by giving them work.
Needless to say when we paid the bill, nothing was said apologising for our lost order and no discount or extras [free coffee, drinks etc] was offered.
We will not be back.

“Disappointing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 7, 2014 via mobile

We arrived just after 5 pm on a Sunday and the place was very busy, but we got a table easy enough. Menu is vast and varied. We opted for the lunch til late menu. 3 courses. The soup could have been warmer but it was pleasant enough. I was disappointed with the measly corner chunk of bread. Our mains took a while to come out but as the place was busy you can only expect a bit of a wait. We had steak pie, which a big let down, given that I have reviewed this place and have raved about the steak pie previously. The pastry was ok but the meat was bone dry, and what little gravy there was was tasteless and made no difference to the dry meat. Once again, bog basic frozen chips, rationed! I ended up leaving the majority of the meal, it was just too dry. The sticky toffee pudding was equally as much of a let down. It was burnt on top, which left a bitter aftertaste. It was not dry/crispy burnt, as the toffee sauce keeps it moist, but it was very unappetising. The small spoonful of ice cream was easily forgettable, and almost liquid anyway by the time it hit our table. I was sadly disappointed by this visit and can think of plenty other places I'd rather give 35 quid to of a Sunday.
